I've wondered if it was because he already had two covers on the disc. I'm also fond of his live take on Sing me Back Home, but then, I always liked Merle Haggard. - -jim ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2005 14:23:39 -0400 From: "E. Sorry about repeating the obvious. I'm sure I'm not alone in being beyond steamed at all this nonsense... so, let's not go there. Cheers, and thanks for the welcome! Speaking of covers, read this, from Richard's hot-off-the-presses newsletter. I sure hope "Famous Blue Raincoat" and his cover of Dolly Parton's "Making Plans" are included. Also, "Louisiana 1927" and "Friend of the Devil." And lots more, now that I think about it . . . wow . . . this is very exciting. And hey, not even five years between releases!!! RG _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I'm recording a record of covers at the moment. I'm particularly excited about this little side project, as it'll give me a chance to get down on tape (or at least encode) a bunch of songs I've been playing for years, but that for one reason or another have never made it onto a record. On the other hand, as I scour the internet, what's left of my memory, and my cd collection for possible songs, I seem to keep gravitating to one particular genre - let's call it "reality-based". If, hypothetically, I were to go in that direction, a good working title might be "Shut Up and Sing". Just kidding, I think. And by the way, this record will be a self-financed project, to be offered for sale only at my website and at concerts. The first pressing will be very limited. Look for it (hopefully) by the end of this year. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2005 17:07:02 -0400 From: Chris Foxwell Subject: Re: [RS] More cover news. In addition to being excited about the covers, I *reeeaaallly* want him to name the album "Shut Up and Sing". That would be, just, awesome. :) As for specific hopes: what about "Green Pastures", with Lucy? Random aside: does anyone here like Sigur Ros? I saw my first concert last night, and they absolutely blew my mind. I'm wondering how much crossover there is between contemporary folk and Icelandic ethereal rock... --Chris -- "We were born in a dark age out of due time (for us). I agree that Louisiana 1927 would be appropriate; it was so before Katrina and even more so now. America would also be a great choice. I've heard that Richard has performed Paul Simon's Bleecker Street as well but have never heard Richard's version. Titles aren't copyrighted. Little triva: Everyone knows about Carole King's Tapestry. The year before King released her album (1970), a then-unknown singer-songwriter had released an album also called Tapestry. That album didn't sell well, but his next album fared better.
