However, I was going home to Ireland, and I assumed I would be able to buy it over there--no such luck. I searched high and low to no avail--though I did see a John Gorka CD. I will buy it here, but was disappointed that my homeland, with such a strong folk tradition, did not have a single record store that carried Dave Carter. Oh well. I did go to an open mic night at a bar in the city center and was very impressed by the quality of the work of some of the "folkies" there--young songwriters with original works of very high quality. I was particularly impressed with a trio (guitar, violin and cello) whose work has a musical and lyrical richness that reminded me of Coldplay without the slick production. Very good. BTW--anyone going to the Brokerage gig on August 10? For me, it's a godsend, because I am now going to miss the November/Carnegie Hall gig--my niece (in Dublin) is getting married on the 19th, so I will be away. Oh well. John McD. Ps. In the interests of candor, my nephew plays the violin and writes the music for the strings in that authentic version of Coldplay band. Although I've said I'm an easy live music grader, those guys are still good. ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V7 #171 ***********************************
