Not in a bad way, but not "introductory" material. I still find his first album--Songs of Leonard Cohen very accessible. His "Best Of" from the mid seventies (1977?) (there is a later one) is also a good overview of his early work. BTW--what is the Nora connection to FBR? Cohen's voice is a bit of an acquired taste--very worthwhile IMO, but perhaps off-putting at first listen. On "Tower" Tori Amos covers "FBR". Personally, I was introduced to Cohen by Judy Collins recording several songs, "FBR" was on her "Living" LP and highly recommended. If you think real Cohen is the way to go, maybe "Essential" is a good start?? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Apr 2005 14:34:02 -0700 (PDT) From: Janet Cinelli Subject: Re: [RS] Famous Blue Raincoat I agree with this. I knew of Leonard Cohen but I only heard covers so I bought the Essential cd and was hooked! I play it all the time at work and I've gotten many comments from people visiting my desk about how much he looks like Al Pacino! Janet PS I'm not sure but I thought it was explained how when RS wanted to write like Leonard, he came up with Nora! Maybe I'm wrong about that. - --- Bruce Righter wrote: > > If you think real Cohen is the way to go, maybe > "Essential" is a good > start?? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hey all . . . a few quick admin-esque reminders, particularly for the newer folks: 1. If you're on digest, please create an actual subject line for your posts. A subject line that reads "Re: shindell-list-digest V7 #106" doesn't really give list members any idea what you're writing about. B. Also for digest folks: if your email program's default setting includes the entire message to which you're responding, please edit out the digest content that's invariably sitting at the bottom of the message you're about to send to the list. We have the admin tool set to bounce any posts that include an entire previous day's digest. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it keeps list members from having their email boxes cluttered with a bunch of posts that they've already read. Three. Not that it's been much of an issue recently, but even if you're not on digest, please edit the content of the posts to which you're responding, and only include as much as you need to in order for list members to know what you're responding to. This is particularly an issue for Yahoo folks, since Yahoo's default setting is to include the message you're replying to. So, please, cut cut cut, or you'll make me Cry Cry Cry. IV. If you signed up to the list from a particular email address, you must post from that address. If you send from any other addresses, your post will bounce. We have the list set to only allow messages from s*bscribed members. Again, perhaps a little inconvenient, but it has totally eliminated spam on the list. Feel free to sign up from multiple addresses if you'd like the flexibility of posting from multiple locations. Thankee kindly.
