Richard sure does seem to be avoiding us lately, but I've seen him here in Sebastopol, in Berkeley and in Santa Cruz. Guess last time I remember him being here was last September. Dar Williams has been away from the bay area even longer, and now she has just added san diego, but no northern ca dates. Seriously now, why the hell would she want to play there? Can't make it--if anyone is interested in using them, email me at lbecker@moxieco.com. They are VIP (front row, or should I say pew) seats, $19 each. I saw Susan Werner at this church a few weeks ago and it is a terrific venue. Let me know. Do all of the American members of his family live in that area? What, not one blacksheep Shindell cousin residing in the west who's company Richard misses? I suppose he is the Shindell blacksheep. It's torture (well, maybe that's a little dramatic) reading some of your guys posts about the 73rd RS show you saw the other night, and the 5 you could see in the next few weeks if you were willing to drive 100 miles, round trip to each. There is, in no way, fairness in where folk acts play in the this country. A concert calender on our folk station's website lists over 50 shows from tonight through Sunday. In Massachusetts this week, Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Dar Williams, Roger McGuinn, Chris Smither, David Mallett, Tim O'Brien, Peter Rowan, Ralph Stanley, Susan Werner, Geoff Muldaur, Allison Krauss, Lori McKenna, Jonatha Brooke, and James Keelaghan all have gigs. And this week is similar to most weeks around here. The combination of big audience base and that many folk acts live in this area makes us blessed and spoiled. Unfortanately, the music isn't this popular everywhere which, I think, leads to folk acts playing the areas they know they will get a good crowd at. But after the intervention my wife and I, and the orange canary went to the show. It was great. Not rushed like Joe's Pub. Richard seems to make it out here roughly once a year. He hasn't played in San Francisco for five years or so, though, and the venue that time was just fantastic. Was anyone there, at the Noe Valley Ministry? A little small for him, but fantastic acoustics. I wish he'd play there again. I too remember him having a couple of relatives at a Berkeley show a couple of years back. I think he said one lived in Marin, but they were both definitely in the Bay Area. I'll be wearing light colored jeans and a dark blue, short-sleaved button-down shirt. I'd like to say hello to any listers that will be there. So far this "go to all the shows in the NY area in the hopes of catching as many different songs as possible" strategy is working out well. There's been quite a bit of variety in the sets. Still waiting for Nora, Famous Blue Raincoat, Calling The Moon, and I Saw My Youth Today. Wisteria, You Again, Ascent... I'm not holding my breath, but I'm still hopeful. I saw a posting by Bob Paterson the other day about tonight. Bob, maybe we could meet up and say hello. I'll look out for you. If you'd like to try to find each other, maybe you could post what you'll be wearing. Anyone else going tonight? Greg S. Yahoo!
