Saw Richard last night at Schubas; Ellis Paul there tonight. It was a wonderful show- albeit too short! (Aren't they all?) :-) Richard commented (as he did when I saw him in Pittsburgh in January) that he is sick of himself and as a result was going to do some different stuff, forwarning us they he might have to refer to his notebook. (As if we would care!) He began and ended with songs I had never heard before. Here's the setlist: 1. Ascent 2. Fleur-de-lis Richard still says he doesn't have any idea what this song is about. Also commented that Solas just reccorded it. 3. Are you happy now? 4. The last fare (my fave from Vuelta) 5. Kenworth of my dreams 6. Che Guevara t-shirt 7. Cancion Sencilla Gave a much bigger intro to this song that when I saw him in Pittsburgh; actually did the translation line by line before singing it. 8. Fenario 9. [title?] A brand new song that he said hadn't been performed before. I'm guessing the title might be "One Man's Arkansas". A keeper. 10. Waist deep in the big muddy 11. Reunion Hill 12. There goes Mavis Sadly, Richard reported that his daughter's bird Mavis passed away last Sunday. Encore: 13. The storms are on the ocean (a song by A.P. Carter) I'm sure the audience hoped for more, but Richard was under the early show deadline since Schubas also had a late show scheduled. Feeling really grateful that I've gotten to 3 live shows in 4 months. Good to hear that he's getting tired of playing the same-old same-old and willing to dig back into the catalog for some of the older songs that he rarely (if ever) plays. Sure would love to hear him trot out some stuff like "TV Light," "Blue Divide," "I Saw My Youth Today" and "May." Of course, living out here in Sandy Eggo, the folk music "half-vast wasteland," I'd be happy just to see him at all. Meanwhile, back home, he's doing three Turning Point and two Joe's Pub shows in April. Ouch, I tell ya. I know--that's incredible. I've sung it a cappella in front of a few audiences. A beautifully haunting song, that one is. Nice to know there's the chance of getting to see Richard do it live. > back home, he's doing three Turning Point and two Joe's Pub shows in April. Have we sorted out the Mystery of Joe's Pub, then? - --V ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Mar 2005 22:15:11 -0500 From: "Gene Frey" Subject: [RS] Ron, you forgot one Hey you guys, Ron G. noted: >>Sure would love to hear him trot out some stuff like "TV Light," "Blue >>Divide," "I Saw My Youth Today" and "May." << and..... ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V7 #82 **********************************
