Scheduled for Wednesday, April 6 is a singer-songwriter from Lakehurst, NJ, by way of Port Washington and Buenos Aires, named Richard Shindell. This may be the first time that Newsday has provided me with actual News. Ive had the privilege and honor of knowing Peter Mulvey and Jeffrey Foucault for a few years now, as well as knowing their "partners in crime"-- Goody and Kris. I've also had the luck of being in the vicinity of the Redbird recording studio, a living room in Ft. Atkinson WI, when it was all going down. Like everything else in the music scene, there are some hits and misses on the Redbird CD, and I am sure that someone might, upon hearing one of the tracks that didn't make it to the CD, might think- "damn, that would have been the best track on there". Oh well... That's the way it goes. Same goes for Mulvey's 10,000 Mornings-- there was an incredible McCartney tune that didn't make it, much to my dismay-- but then it isnt my CD and my name on the cover.... On the bright side-- the Redbird CD was re-released on Signature Sounds. And there is an official Redbird Tour! http://www.younghunter.com/redbird.html#tour So if you can make it to one or more of these shows, I HIGHLY encourage you to go! Don't be surprised if they make up the setlist on the fly (they will), or if they screw up lyrics or chords to some obscure cover song they try to dredge up (they will), or if they just amaze you with their talent (they will), or if Jeff gives you goosebumps channelling the ghost of Townes Van Zandt (he will). ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2005 14:23:04 -0800 (PST) From: Janet Cinelli Subject: [RS] The Brokerage WOW! Thanks for the info. I went to their web site recently, hoping to see who would be playing there. Once a month it seems they have a music act, always on a Wednesday for some reason. I've see Richard here last time he was there and he put on an awesome show! Thank you for noticing the date Gene! I work ten minutes from there! Hi, I just joined this list, although I've been a fan of Richard Shindell for years. I'm a songwriter and performer myself, and have been playing several of RS's songs, always followed by a suggestion that anyone not familiar with Richard Shindell should immediately go out and buy his albums. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out songs from listening to them, and I've found this site (http://members.aol.com/rongrittz/page2/shindell.htm) to be invaluable. Lately, I've decided that I want to play his song "Lazy", but it has me completely stumped. Does anyone here have the chords or tab for the song, or at least maybe know a chord or two that he uses, to at least give me a starting point? Any help would be greatly appreciated! As with "There Goes Mavis," I'm completely nowhere with Bossa Nova-ish chords. So, don't be looking for the chords to either song on my site anytime soon. Sorry. It also means, unfortunately, that if Richard ever decides to cover "The Girl from Ipanema," you're equally S.O.L.
