You have deliberately crafted a post designed to create negative emotions in your fellow listers. It has no other content. It offers nothing constructive to the discussion. It's as though it would pain you to see other people getting along peacefully. I don't understand you at all. It is really sad and frightening that you actually thought it was a good idea to send this message to the list. - --V On Sun, 06 Feb 2005 09:09:42 -0800 (PST), Patience9@aol.com wrote: <> ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Feb 2005 15:09:28 -0500 From: Vanessa Wills Subject: Re: [RS] Most overlooked RS song? RonA requested: <> "Are You Happy Now." That snappy little tune has been buried somewhere in the back pages of the Richard Shindell songbook for far too long, and it's well past time that song received its due praise. Every time I see Richard play, I wonder, Will he play it this time?! Will the crowd enjoy it?! And, if by some miracle he does dust off this charming old ditty and bring it out into the light of day, I wonder how many days, months, *years* it will be before I can dare hope to hear it played again. It's a damn shame this obscure and lovely little number hasn't received more critical attention. We old diehards can't get enough of it, but sadly it's not managed to capture the popular imagination in the way that "Money for Floods" and "By Now," always a toe-tappin' crowd-pleaser, have done. - --V P.S. My personal favorite is "You Again". I have probably listened to that song a thousand times. Unfortunately, he apparently dropped it from his play list some time ago. However, since I haven't had the opportunity to see him in over 4 years, maybe he resurrects is occasionally? I was really disappointed it didn't end up on Courier. But you can't have it all ... _____________ Tom Huot tjhuot@comcast.net ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 06 Feb 2005 13:32:26 -0500 From: Lisa Davis - home Subject: Re: [RS] Most overlooked RS song? >easily the most overlooked is "I Saw My Youth Today." I guess I didn't think of it as overlooked because when the CD came out he played it at every show! But it is a fabulous song. TV light. You will conclude correctly (probably have done so ages ago) that I have no memory..... He did it at Joe's Pub in November, and again in Pittsburgh on the 28th. I *think* I heard him do it once before November, too, but I'm not sure. It's definitely a concert rarity, though. - --V On Sun, 6 Feb 2005 13:17:33 -0700, Thomas J. Why didn't I pay attention to this before?". > > I'll nominate two from Reunion Hill: "May" and "Smiling". Well... I have been out all day and many have weighed in - however, if I had read this right away, my immediate response would have been... :: everyone turns to look at Gene :: I see Mr. Frey has already stated his opinion, and forecast, of weather patterns - I almost had him (and others) convinced of the song's appearance in a setlist a few years back but, alas, it was really only the proverbial snowball's chance in... well... :-) http://grassyhill.org/stax/shindell/index.cgi?i=1012201512_ozwoman3 Regarding Smiling, I realize I'm in the minority here... but the song has a special place in my heart - there have been some wonderfully in-depth, analytical posts in the past by those who have said this much better than I. However, upon first listen, and with each repeated, I feel the tune works on both a personal and a spiritual level - the expectations of structure and boundaries in a relationship segue to the warm embrace of unconditional love... From "lord, I am not worthy" to amazing grace - indeed... <3 Susan http://www.heartsdesireconcerts.com http://www.horseofadifferentcolorbooking.com "I was all out of choices, but the woman of voices She turned round the corner with music around her, She gave me the language that keeps me alive..." ~ Dar Williams ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 06 Feb 2005 20:19:55 -0500 From: Norman Johnson Subject: [RS] I saw my youth and other songs overlooked Ron G: >> For me, easily the most overlooked is "I Saw My Youth Today." I'm doing a demo for a radio folk music show. Imagine it's Thursday around 7 p.m. What four songs would be representative of the best of folk, showing the wonderful flavors and variety, at the same time fitting in with the time of day...most folks having worked all day, perhaps just finished or finishing dinner, maybe just having dinner. The show goes from 7 to 9, but only using four songs to represent the time frame. I would love suggestions for four songs, an excellent mix maybe representing folk at it's best. I'm just brainstorming here. Something old, something new, etc. Thanks for your help in advance.
