He sang a bunch of Bobby Darin songs. Any interested could prtobably find an article about it at boston.com. DeSombre" Subject: [RS] Richard's other career I just wanted to report in as the beneficiary of Richard's other career as a used guitar salesguy. Here's how it went: When Ron posted here about Richard selling his Lowden I emailed him to ask about it . . . it was something I'd really love to have, but it seemed impractical for a number of reasons. Ron and I emailed back and forth a couple times, and he eventually implied that it had been taken off the market. Here's what had actually happened: my very cool spouse (Sammy) had, behind my back, gotten in touch with Ron to ask about buying the guitar for me for a Chanukah (and early birthday) present. (he had also gotten in touch with my parents in secret, to get them to go in with him on this.) Ron put Sammy in touch with Scott, and they arranged for it to be shipped here at a time when Sammy (who lives part of the time in another state for work reasons) would be around to get it without my knowing. The last part didn't *quite* work out -- I was here when a really large box, with "guitar" crossed off and "Scott Shindell" as the return address, arrived at my door. I called Sammy who instructed me to put it into a closet and forget about it until he arrived. He came home this weekend, though, and I opened it, and it's pretty much the coolest present ever. I've hardly been able to stop playing it since. It's an absolutely gorgeous guitar and has a sound totally unlike my other guitar (a martin). It's a huge sound for a small guitar, which works especially well since I'm a small person and can't play a big guitar. And it's a really full sound -- I don't quite know how to describe it, but all the notes blend together really well. I guess I don't actually have to describe it to most of you -- you've probably heard it! And (I know this is going to sound strange to say) it has the most amazing tuning pegs -- they're so smooth that it's really easy to put the guitar in and out of various tunings. Which makes perfect sense considering what it's been doing for the first part of its career. Anyway, it's great to have a guitar that already knows all of Richard's songs, and I'm setting about to teach it all of Dave Carter's songs as well, and even a few of my own. And I can recommend Richard as a used guitar dealer when the next opportunity arises!
