Can't wait until tomorrow night to see Richard at World Cafe Live. I was there last night for Shawn Colvin-it's a great venue and the food and service are excellent. We were a little futher back than we'll be for Richard. I'll be there, in the front, with my short brown hair and Che Guevara t-shirt :) Toby ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Nov 2004 13:02:27 -0800 (PST) From: Janet Cinelli Subject: [RS] Joe's Pub Anybody go? I was there, the first time I'd been there. It was a very interesting venue, it looked like a sold out show to me. Eliza Gilkyson came on with no introductions and was great. Richard joined her on her last two songs. No encore, which surprised me! Then Richard came on right after that. It seemed so short! He did alot of singing, not too much talking, except for when he was going to sing "Cancion Sencilla." He asked if anyone spoke Spanish, which I don't think many responded yes. He sang it and I know I don't understand Spanish but it sounded different from the album. I wonder if he sang some different words instead, just to amuse himself? He did note someone in the audience came all the way from the Netherlands to see him and let him pick any request he wanted. I was hoping for something I'd never heard him do but the man picked "Waiting for the Storm" a song he sang last month at the IMAC! Oh well! It was a great show, short but great. No encore for him either, which really shocked me! Trying to buy a shirt from Richard was difficult, to put it mildly but that's another story! Janet __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I would have requested "I Saw My Youth Today". It's one of my favorites, and I think it's Richard's best singing that I can think of. I thought the show was short too, but I really enjoyed it. I thought You Stay Here and Reunion Hill were particularly great. I had an extra ticket because my wife couldn't make it. I posted a msg to the list yesterday morning offering the ticket for free. I thought I'd get bombarded with responses, but I didn't get any. I guess everyone in the area that could go already had tickets. Here's a sketchy set list for those who didn't make the show. I missed the first 3 songs, so I'm listing what I heard Richard played. Also,I'm not sure of the order, especially in the middle. Also, I'm not sure if it's complete. Other than that you can bank on it. I know it's Dar's song but I love his version better. I used to want to hear "TV Light" but gave that up a long time ago! I would also like to hear "Merrit Parkway, 2 a.m." Has he ever played that one in concert? I like listening to that when I'm stuck in traffic on the L.I.E., 6:30 a.m., pretending I'm not really stuck in traffic! Richard didn't play "Whipporwill" though I wished he did, I love that song. The first song was "There Goes Mavis". Janet __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I'm pretty sure my order is completely wrong, too. It's funny, but I was able to remember the set list from the show at the church, but I had a little trouble with the one at the bar. A correct set list for Fri's Joe's Pub show would be nice, if anyone has it. I'd be interested in seeing Saturday's too. By the way, Calling The Moon would be a close second on my list of requests. I hadn't discovered Richard yet when SNP came out. Does anyone know if he was playing Calling The Moon back then? I just realized that Ronnie from the list is the man from the Netherlands who Richard offered the request to Fri night. Ronnie, I didn't realize you were from the Netherlands - I thought you were from France. I remember that you posted a msg a while back saying that you had bought tickets for both shows at Joe's Pub. So I'm wondering, did you get to pick a song Saturday night, too? How did you like the shows? That must have been a nice surprise to be recognized by Richard and given a chance to request a song. Anyone know if Richard will be touring in the spring? Greg Sheridan ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V6 #269 ***********************************
