I'm willing to chalk up his flip comment to self-deprecation or not-well-thought-out stage banter or something, but it's not like that's an irrelevant topic on a list that's about, you know, the music of Richard Shindell. I *could* use this to *help* with my work, but instead it will most likely become yet another procrastination facilitation device. In scholar.googling "Richard Shindell," I came across this: "[PDF] Musical Means: Using Songs in Teaching Statistics D STATISTICS ... In his song Ascent, contemporary folk artist Richard Shindell (1994) points out the futility of having someone `reduce me to the mean'. ... Teaching Statistics, 2001 - blackwell-synergy.com - blackwell-synergy.com - ingenta.com " Only thing is you've gotta pay $25 to download the whole article (it's not vended by google, but by an offsite, um, vendor). Has anyone seen this article? It seems like there's probably not much about Richard other than that one reference, but it seems quite intriguing, all the same. I think when I get back to Pittsburgh I will be availing myself of JSTOR (subscription academic journal archive) to continue this inquiry... - --V ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Nov 2004 19:20:52 -0700 From: "Matthew Bullis" Subject: [RS] A High-quality stream to record World Cafe is found. Hello, I opened up all of the stations from the World Cafe site, and if they had a live stream, I clicked on it to see if the sound was stereo and excellent high-speed quality. After a half hour of searching, I came across one at Perdue University. So then to record this program whenever he will be on, you select the what you hear option in the volume control of your sound card. It's usually under accessories and entertainment under properties for recording. Turn off all windows blips and sounds, including instant messenger and e-mail. In fact, reboot your computer and shut everything down except for the needed programs, namely whatever you're going to record with and the stream. I chose WBAA as the excellent-sounding station to record from. So go to www.WorldCafe.org and click on stations, and scroll down to Indiana for the WBAA stream and enjoy, whenever it will be on. 'Calvinist' is standard tuning. How does Dar play Christians & Pagans? Does she keep switching tunings back and forth throughout? :) Bart > I know he was just kidding around, but does anyone know the tuning of the > strings he uses on most of his songs on this tour.
