It's only fair to mention that the reason we can play Vuelta on our Folk Show, which does not have a budget for buying discs, is thanks to the graciousness of Scott Shindell, who sent us our copy. - -jim btw- any of you midwesterners know sons of the never wrong? we had them here this weekend for a harmony workshop and concert... holy cow, what an amazing show, and absolutely lovely people. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Nov 2004 15:09:24 GMT From: "randolph33@juno.com" Subject: [RS] Richard in Charlottesville Got to Gravity Lounge early; they were doing sound checks, so we ate and returned early enough that Richard was wandering around, sending an e-mail with his PDA, talking. I got close and waited; all I could think to do was thank him for coming this far off the beaten track, but hes very nice to tongue-tied old men. He said he was enjoying the tour, and everything I saw confirmed that. I told him I was obligated to ask for The Weather, but if he didnt feel like it, maybe Famous Blue Raincoat (his covers are either songs I love, or never heard before and now love). He said sweetly hed do Raincoat instead of The Weather (he may have affected the weather, Patit was a gorgeous Nov. 1). Tom Proutt and Emily McCormick opened for the 60+ gathered (there were maybe a dozen there for Tracy Grammar and Jim Henry)Tom and Richard played guitar together in high schooland Amy Rigby did a great set, high-energy satire and a couple of very tender songs to end. Richard opened with the same 6 songs from Vuelta he did at Jammin Java, saying hed just do songs from the album if that was OK. I was pretty happy when he also did other thingshe asked for requests and ignored them(!), doing Mary Magdalen and Arrowhead, etc. He clearly enjoyed pausing to tell the RUHappyNow story just before the last verse. Wisteria was most requested, and Whippoorwill, which he finally did play, followed by America, Fishing and finally Traffic. His guitar playing (he was solo) blew me away. He flat picks Cancion Sencilla, does a combination of finger picking with finger strumsort of blues and flamenco like, with a completely different effecton Mavis and Arrowhead. The overtones from the (new Taylor?) guitar will send me to headphonesI hadnt heard any of those subtleties in my car. As he left the stage area, I reminded myself that I was a big boy, the concert couldnt have been better, I liked everything he played; and as he said of Before You Go re: Vueltamaybe next time. But the crowd kept clapping, and he came back for an encore. This is not a good song to end with, he said, but somebody asked for itand it is a great song. Raincoats a great song when he sings it, and Im still floating on cloud 9. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Nov 2004 09:58:48 -0500 From: Roxylee Subject: [RS] AYHN?/ IAHN Hey, Does anyone have, or know where I can get, the recorded Hugh Blumenfeld reply to AYHN? Some are soundboard feeds others are schoeps MK-4's from the sweet spot: Somerville Theatre Somerville, MA (includes Lucy's set), Valley Players Theatre Waitsfield, VT, Both shows at the Ironhorse Northampton, MA, Tupelo Music Hall Londonderry, NH, and IMAC Huntington, NY Can't stop listening to "Mavis", what a great song. Also really like "Che Gueverra T-Shirt" and most of the new album he performed even though I am a stone ringer for Richard's older stuff. Several shows featured a stand up Bass Player and drums, I do not know the names of these musicians but they are a tremendous compliment to RS... Apparently there are several rabid tapers following RS around this tour as I have never seen this many tapes coming off one of his tours so soon after the shows. contact me at this address if you are interested in trading. Hi, Bob, It sounds like you're watching NBC and/or Fox News? None of the other networks have called it for Kerry yet. It's unlikely this will be settled until the provisional ballots in Ohio get counted, and that process can't begin for eleven days. I've been glued to the television, worrying myself into a tizzy. It's been worth it, to catch Tom Brokaw saying that Kerry, having "lost" Ohio, could still win with what Brokaw called a "wicked combination" of states. He then self-corrected to "tricky combination." It's always interesting to hear what these people say when they're sleep-deprived and unscripted. - --Vanessa On Wed, 3 Nov 2004 01:44:49 EST, bobdog25nj@aol.com wrote: > 1:39am > > We're waist deep in the big muddy... > > and the damn fools re-elect the Captain who got us there in the first place. > > Please God watch over the United States of America over the next four years > - and please arrange it so my two nephews do not end up in Iraq getting their > heads blowed off. > > Crap.
