I am so depressed. After looking forward to this show for weeks, our 6 year old decided to pick yesterday to knock out 4 front teeth by doing a face plant off of his scooter. They were all baby teeth, and he will be fine, but after the trauma of the day, my wife refused to leave him with anyone else. So I sit here waiting for your reviews of the show. Then again, maybe that will be even more depressing. Richard and Lucy are both appearing closer to my area in the next few weeks; but I don't know if tickets are still available, and of course, they won't be appearing together. I wonder if there will be another chnace in the spring? Ron A ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Oct 2004 09:39:05 EDT From: Bobdog25nj@aol.com Subject: [RS] Richard and Lucy At "The Outpost" Hi All: I attended the Richard and Lucy concert at "The Outpost in the Burbs" last night in Montclair, New Jersey, as did more than a few of you I think. Great show - what would you expect? I'll post a set list cause I am a digest person, and have no evidence that anyone else already did it. 1. Fenario 2.Big Muddy 3.Che Guevara T-shirt 4.Mavis 5.Cancion Sencilla 6.Hazel's House 7.Waiting For The Storm 8.America ( Paul Simon) 9.Transit 10.Last Fare encore 11.The Kid (with Lucy on lead vocals) ( Buddy Montlock) 12. an A.P. Carter country song called? " "False To Thee" (with Lucy) 13. Sin City ( with Lucy) ( Gram Parsons) I have a few other comments to add, but some of what I say might qualify as "spoilers" so read on at your own risk. Lucy opened with a great set. She looked great ( as always ) and seemed in a bit of a "rock chick" mood - she had a funny energy and was strumming the hell out of her guitar. She had Duke Levine on stage with her. He played mandolin and electric guitar ( not simultaneously) and that was a special treat as he added a lot to her sound. I couldn't tell if she was nervous or excited to be playing with Duke Levine. Something was different. Maybe now that she has Molly and isn't playing out so often the feeling of being on stage in front of so many people is different that it used to be. Anyway - she was in great voice and seemed just delighted to be playing at "Outpost" - and said so more than once as I recall. Richard ( and his band ) came out after intermission. It was a surprise to me, but Richard had a bass player ( acoustic upright bass) and drummer with him. As you might guess. Lincoln Scleifer was on bass, and Denny McDermont on drums. So it was a reunion of sorts of the "Courier" band. There was a grand piano on stage ( which Lucy played earlier) but no Rad - that was the evenings only dissapointment. I can't recall that I had seen Richard with this band before - and they were great. I especially enjoyed Denny's drumming as he was very restrained and made a point to add to the music rather than overpower it. Richard made some funny comments from the stage but I won't repeat them all. The one I latched onto was during the introduction to "Che": Richard explained that the narrator of the song eventually ends up in jail in Dade County, Florida - and they know that he is somehow tied to a picture of a woman in a Che Guevara T-Shirt - and that Dade County Florida is a place where Che Guevara is not a popular guy - least of all by people with Cuban accents. I had not latched onto that aspect of the song before. If anyone wants to explain exactly why Che is not well liked in Dade County - please do. I know he was buds with Castro - and that the people in Dade County with Cuban accents hate Castro - for obvious reasons. But I don't really know much of the Che Guevara story. Robert Redford just made a movie about a motorcyle trip Che made while he was in medical school - and I see a lot of Che T-shirts out on the streets ( including on a baby one day - no kidding ) -so someone smarter than me please tell us the reason Che is such a cultural icon. ( And - while your at it - explain whether I am supposed to like the guy or hate him - cause I hate Castro and communism - and kinda associate Che Guevara with both - so my first thought was probably Che is not my kind of guy ). OK. I appologize if I pratled on too long. Hello to fellow lister Jeff, who I met by accident and who was the very first person in line. I was third. I sat in the 8th row - go figure. ( well... not so bad actually. If I wasn't so cheap I could cough up the bucks and become an "Outpost" member too... and then I would get one of the reserved seats). bye... Bob Paterson PS... Thanks to Vanessa for a great link, which I will repeat here: _http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3764718.stm_ (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3764718.stm) An abuelita is about to have her dream come true! Vanessa, I hope it was alright - but I printed out this story and tried to have it sent back stage to Richard. ( I would like to think he knows about it already but what the hell ), However - I don't think it made it to Richard - the Outpost staff didn't seemed pleased with my request - which is fine. But somehow someway somebody needs to tell Richard about this. It is very cool, and brought a big smile to my face ( and..ummm..well...ok...a tear or two). Maybe someone on the list can tell him about it or something. He lives in Argentina - he must follow this "DNA reconection of stolen babies" in the news. ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V6 #226 ***********************************
