Thought maybe it would be good to post about the Richard and Lucy show this Friday in Montclair, New Jersey. The venue is called 'Outpost In The Burbs"... many of you have been there too. A big stone church. A big room. Sound is usually very good. I was there on Friday night for "The Strawbs" of all people, who were great. Pete Fornatel was there as a surprise to introduce the band. They mentioned that the Richard and Lucy show is now sold-out. This is good news I guess that Richard and Lucy can sell-out a pretty big room in advance - but bad news if you still needed a ticket. Here's what I thought you might want to know. The line will form early and the seats in the front are way better than the seats in the back. I strongly recommend you get there early. The website says doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 8:30pm. I asked and was told that those of us that need to pick up "will call" tickets might be able to get them as early as 6pm. ( I cannot guarantee this to be true ). I would guess there will already be a short line by 7pm. If you show up at 8:25pm - you will sit in the rear of the room ( which is not the end of the world). It might be nice if members of this list could get together before or after the show - but if we went out to dinner before , we would all end up sitting in the back. And people are mostly too tired or something to want to go out after. But maybe I am wrong? When I woke up this morning, John Platt was mentioning the Outpost show and played "Mavis"... it was a nice thing to hear after just waking up. Still not hearing " Last Fare" they way I expected too, but maybe that will happen. I read and thought about your thoughtful posts about "Last Fare" - I was clearly wrong when I suggested that the "cruel rain" was the rain of debris from the fall of the towers themselves. I guess I was taking stupid pills the day I posted that. Saint Lukes is also clearly a hospital - not a chuch. ( again, I was wrong). But I maintain my position that the song makes more sense and has more power if the couple from the first part of the song is the same as the couple in the second part of the song. But Richard's opinion does kinda count for something -and he says they are different couples, right? It is a wonderful song. I admire the way Richard took the tiny events in the life of a New York City cabdriver and used them to tell a story about 9/11. I especially admire the way he managed to bring about an uplifting ending. And I have a 2 year old niece named Grace - so I also want to thank Richard for working her into one of his songs. I really thought naming the album 2 albums ago after me was enough. see ya... I think having the two couples be the same is a little too neat, too storybook, and very unlike the Richard we've come to know. I think it works equally well as a story of tragedy and rebirth, even if they're different couples.
