I've been blissfully listening to it since early afternoon. Richard, if you are lurking-Bravo!! Well worth the wait. I guess I'll have 2 copies :) I didn't hear any of Vuelta on XPN's New Release Tuesday, even though I called twice and requested it. Got mine!...I got it.... I got it today...today! ...and have been playing it repeatedly ever since. I must stop soon so as not to be totally saturated before the Chicago performance on NOV12. "Chi-caw-go, Chi-caw-go, that toddlin town! I know I must irritate the heck out of alot of listers with my corny banter.... so sorry, but I'm rather euphoric, it's a great cd......."and I say to myself, it's wonderful, wonderful, Ohhhh.... sooo wonderful.....". Now, does anyone have a guess as to how old I am? Anyway, I'll stop now to say I am very pleased with this cd. As I mentioned before the cd was released, it seems to me that some of the new songs are less intense and a bit lighter than some of R's other stuff, however, they are just as exceptionally well crafted and every bit as enjoyable to listen to as his other works. The preference for the sad songs is just me, and it seems I am not happy unless I see a bleak picture painted. This cd has a rather upbeat feel. Good going, Richard! How long can you keep producing great music before attaining mass critical acclaim? Richard has done it again, with another great album. It's still Richard but I do feel a difference between this album and the previous ones (especially Somewhere Near Paterson). Where SNP was intense, Vuelta is more restrained, more subtle. I don't know whether it's the Argetine players or what but this album is different. Richard is still in fine form as a story-telling songwriter, whether it is the stowaway in Che Guevara T-shirt or the taxi driver in Last Fare of the Day. The more I think about it, the more I see why Waist Deep in the Big Muddy was chosen for the cover. Not only is it (unfortunately) very appropriate for our times but it's also (unlike most protest songs) a story that has a message and yet doesn't beat you over the head with it. Intensity is easy...this album is so amazing in its detail, its though to every note and syllable. Every word in these songs was well constructed....each song is like a book...slowly evolving. These have always been qualities of his songs but never has it been as great as here. Musically, I think this is the most inventive and best album. The music fits the songs absolutely perfectly. And I agree with Norman, "Muddy" is a perfect song as it is politically charged but also a great story - just like many of Richard's great tunes. Lastly, after 10 listens, I can say I love every single track and I cannot remember the last time I heard an album where I could say that. First I love these words- "Searching for La Cruz del Sur But by-and-by the sky he knows Has yielded to another..." But La Cruz del Sur is not just the name of the constellation but also of an English language Argentine paper. http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/magazine/articles/uhf_argentina2.htm Also, CG T-shirt is unusual for a Richard song in that it is told in third person.
