Just wondering, I looked in our library for the folk show at WPSU and didn't see an advance copy or promo. BTW, what IS the correct pronunciation for the new album title? - -jim ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jul 2004 09:20:57 -0400 From: Jim Colbert Subject: [RS] I'd like to buy the world a Koch > I was perusing Koch's website the other day and was > wondering if anyone can answer this question. > > Koch owns Shanachie...didnt he leave Shanchie to make > 2 records for Signature Sounds? If you check the archives, the general details of Richard's agreement between himself and Young/Hunter and Signature Sounds should be in there- it was rather interesting. With new management, I'd guess they looked at other options and came up with what they felt was a better deal from a business standpoint for the artist. I never got the impression any of that round of Fast Folk alumni who got signed to Shanachie around that time- Rod MacDonald, Richard, Michael Jerling, uh, did Jack Hardy do a short tenure there too?- were that enamored of their record deals, but I think it was also an important, and validating, step for all of them. Feel free to correct me, anyone who knows more details. They play new releases every Monday, so there may be another track or two coming this afternoon or evening. If I had to guess, I'd go with Corny O'Connell after 6 PM. I doubt Denis Elsas will be playing anything, as he only plays Van Morrison and Jackson Browne, but if he does, it's even money he pronounces 'Shindell' as rhyming with 'swindle.' The detailed performance schedules for Falcon Ridge are available online. Richard pops up as follows: Friday, 5 PM, Workshop Stage - Johnny Cash/June Carter tribute set. I nominate him for 'Ring of Fire.' Friday, 10:45 PM, Mainstage - Summer's Eve Song Swap (with Greg Brown, Lucy Kaplansky, and Eliza Gilkyson) Saturday, 12:45 PM, Workshop Stage - We The People Saturday - 7:30 PM - Mainstage - His own set. Finally, a nighttime mainstage set. Likely guest appearances include Lucy and John Gorka, who follow each other on the Mainstage at 3:10 and 4:10 Saturday, and, if he's still around, Tracy Grammer at 6:15 PM Sunday. And, let's not miss our own Susan Moss as part of the 'Working with Agents and Managers' workshop, Thursday at 3:10 PM. If we're on site by then, I'll be there to heckle....I mean support Susan. Like Rounder, it looks like Koch distributes many albums on indie labels. Koch does this, it seems, with 50 labels or so including Shananchie, Appleseed(Pete Seeger's label), Red House, and Vanguard. - --- Jim Colbert wrote: > > I was perusing Koch's website the other day and > was > > wondering if anyone can answer this question. > > > > Koch owns Shanachie...didnt he leave Shanchie to > make > > 2 records for Signature Sounds? There will not be a realtime webcast, but we will probably do a delayed one. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jul 2004 09:47:36 -0400 (EDT) From: Vanessa C Wills Subject: Re: [RS] on the air VWELL-tah. Since the word appears alone, and not embedded in a sentence, the "v" is actually pronounced as though closer to a "b" than a "v," although no one will have an attack if you don't get it quite right. At any rate, the "v" should be pronounced somewhat more softly than the English "v." - --V On Mon, 12 Jul 2004, Jim Colbert wrote: > BTW, what IS the correct pronunciation for the new album title? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jul 2004 17:47:42 +0100 From: "Alan Teather" Subject: Re: [RS] Airplay and Falcon Ridge Denis Elsas .............not one of your fave dj's then Gene?
