Everybody who wanted a postcard/sticker or two will get them - if you didn't send me your mailing address them I'll email you over the next few days. Post to the US usually takes around a week, and I imagine I'll get them all out by the weekend, so expect the postcards to arrive sometime in the first week of May. The winner of the poster is.....asks wife to pick random number, counts down the list....Carrie in KC, I'll email you later today. Paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2004 09:30:47 EDT From: Bobdog25nj@aol.com Subject: [RS] Chris Smither... Hey All: Mind if I wonder slightly off-topic? I just saw the beautiful and talented Diana Krall on the Today Show. She played a song at 845am (east coast time)... some of you might have a chance to still see this I suppose...anyway, after the song was over she was talking to Katie and Matt, and they were talking about how "sexy and sultry" the song was, and Katie said "that's a Bonnie Raitt song, right? ", and Diana said " actually it's a Chris Smither song. I learned it form Bonnie Raitt but Chris Smither wrote it." So... thought I'd post it cause I know there is a RichardSchindell-ChrisSmither connection of some kind. I can't remember, is Chris's manager or PR person or somebody on this list? I swear I remember some connection... but maybe it was on the Dar list instead. Anyway, I know some of you are much more expert in the world of Chris Smither than I am ( though I have seen him twice and I think he like totally rocks in the world of acoustic guitar players ) , so tell me please... which Chris Smither song is it that Diana Krall sang on the today show ( I did not recognize the song)? Is this gonna be the single from the new Diana Krall album? For extra credit, you could also tell me which Joni Mitchell song is on the new Diana Krall album, and anything you know about whether Joni and Diana have met and are buds and stuff would be good to know too. Diana said she is currently living in British Columbia ( where Joni lives in the summertime)... and she something about some funny little Englishmen named Elvis that she apparently married. Finally, a question: If Diana Krall were going to put a Richard Shindell song on her next record ( a couple of years from now I suppose), which song should she do? It would be a big change in both instrumentation ( piano vs. guitar ) and voice ( female vs. male). Diana does a lot of broken-hearted jazz ballad stuff. Has Richard written a song that qualifies? Off the top of my head, I cannot think of one. Can't really see Diana doing "Are You Happy Now", though it is about a broken heart. k... see ya... Love You Like a Man...I think. I could be wrong but that is what I think it is. Chris has written many great tunes. He wrote that back in the early 70's. Come to think of it, it maye be another tune. :) Maybe someone else is a better help. Chris Smither is wonderful. Bonnie Raitt is actually on his last album. I, too, have a slightly off topic question. I saw two great concerts this weekend. One was Jeffrey Foucault and he covered Blackie Farrell's "Sonara's Death Row", he played it much different than Richard does, which was neat to hear. But now I am curious to hear the orginal....anyone know where it is recorded?
