I would have given my right arm to be there, but it just wasn't in the cards...... Lucy is supposed to coming to my local venue sometime later this year, but I haven't heard a date yet. And Richard almost always hits the Philly area once or twice when he tours. Can't wait!! Anyway, if some kind soul has a tape of last night they would like to share, please email me off-list. I'm sure I could grovel sufficiently if you do! Ron A (also posted this on the Lucy list - sorry if you got it twice!) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 18:05:46 EST From: Bobdog25nj@aol.com Subject: [RS] Richard at Joe's Pub, April 1 hello all: Thanks to everyone for the reviews of the Friday night and Saturday night shows. I enjoy sort of "watching" Richard on tour and seeing what songs he plays over and over again...and which ones he just plays once in a while. Thought I post something about Joe's Pub where Richard is appearing this coming Thursday, April 1. ( No joke, despite the date). The website is www.joespub.com , as you might expect. It is on Lafayette Steet, several blocks east of the Washington Square park, in what I think of as Greenwich Village, but might actually be the East Village. Joe's Pub is part of the Public Theater complex. You enter to the left of the main building, there's an iron gate, and if you walk around the corner you'll se a set of doors. Tickets are 20 dollars, a bargain, but drinks and food are pricy the way they are in nightclubs sometimes. I had one beer, an Amstel Light as I recall, and I think it was 7 bucks. Very nice room, and the sound was great. The night I was there ( for Susan Werner), a line formed about 45 mins or so before the show began ( I went to the late show)... and there are two shows for Richard too... 7:30pm and 9:30pm. This venue has some tables... and some couches with big comfy cushions... and I think a bunch of people ended up standing at the bar ( which I think is very odd, but they used to do that at The Bottom Line too). My advice would be to get in line early to be sure that you get a seat ( but maybe on a Thursday night it might not be crowded... I don't know). If you make dinner reservations, they will reserve you a great table, so some of you might want to go that route... but I don't know what you might be able to spend on dinner. I'm told the food was good. If you call, I'm sure they will tell you about the food and whether any reservations are available. You might have to ask them to reserve the table. The night I was there, it was not the usuall folk-music crowd, and I felt a little under-dressed ( I was in a very nice sweater and blue jeans... better than I usually dress for a folk show), so those of you who worry about such things might want to dress up a bit. It's a New York night club after all. But I don't think they have any dress code, and Richard's crowd is not exactly the same as the "caberet" people that came to see Susan. I parked on the street several blocks away, but I have been told I am a genius at parking on the street, so you meer mortals might want to think about using a lot. There are several in that general neighborhood. There's a Starbucks just north at the corner on the opposite side of the street. A good place to meet-up before or after the show, if you need to meet your friend or something. Don't think I can make it, but I look forward to hearing about it here. See Ya... Bob Paterson ( I hope this posts without the formating getting all screwed up) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 18:05:16 -0500 From: sharon G Subject: [RS] FUV, Peekskill and more I heard most of the interview on FUV with Richard and Claudia.. I had to get to the office, so i heard most of Hazel's House and then missed part of the interview. Richard played mostly new songs for FUV. Hazel's house never before played..Last night, he introduced it dedicated to his aunt. He used Argentinian artists for this record and spoke at length about the interplay between instruments and languages and it was Cheaper to record in Argentina with these musicians plus they are very skilled. He talked of the percussionist who took out a bird cage to play on Mavis and he asked him if he knew what the song was about, the man didnt, Its about a canary and a birdcage appears in the song. It has a semi bossa nova beat to it by the way.. I really like the new music I have heard many of the new songs since last summer and Fenario always reminds me of Darkness, Darkness because those words appear in the song. I was in Peekskill last night and was delighted Richard had Lincoln with him and not his full band..though i love looking at Denny..Rad just plain distracts me.. Richard sang mostly new songs- as reported and Are you happy now with Lucy and I was glad they didnt sing Love Hurts...after hearing EmmyLou and Buddy sing it..No one touches EmmyLou..she owns that one.. Richard joined lucy for TEN year night and I had something.. hearing them sing, the Kid and By way of sorrow..reminded me of those Crycrycry shows.. it was nice to see richard play. Lucy added stunning vocals to Last Fare..she is a keeper on that one.. they really are connected by their own red thread.. I will be at the early show at joes pub.. the room is small and the acoustics are outstanding and its as intimate as the turning point only sounds better..the food is costly but good and the wait staff.. down town pretenious..The bread is from Sullivan Street bakery and the best in town.. I did see Gene and Isabelle and Elaine, but not Kristin last night.. now if richard can only be convinced to play falcon ridge.. sharonG ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 18:20:46 -0500 From: sharon G Subject: [RS] peekskill highlight Richard sings my favorite version of Mary Magdelen.. Lucy sang the chorus and back up for him.. it was better than Love Hurts.. Lucy's voice became more and more powerful was the song continued.. They are just so in sync.. well how many times have they sung that one together... during the FUV interview, richard made it clear he was NOT married to lucy and spoke of his wife, children and living happily in south america without Lucy .... sdg ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 16:09:11 -0500 From: "scott shindell" Subject: [RS] Yerba Mate While mate looks like dope, and one orients toward it like dope (quasi-ritualistic cleaning, little pouches, paraphrenalia, and such) it's not even close to being a narcotic. I think caffeine is the main "buzz" inrgredient. So for those of you looking for a new vice, this may not be it. I think it may even be good for you.
