Show starts at 8 PM and usually runs till midnight. You may be able to get the order of the performances if you call 516-572-7148. It can get crowded and if you don't get there early, you have to wait until people leave to free up seats. I've noticed a lot of senior citizens who show up because it's free and then leave as it gets toward their bed time. The Folk Festival is in the College Center. Just look for the 12 story Administrative Tower. As you face North, The College Center is just to the left of the Tower, no more than a couple of hundred feet. Believe it or not, you have to go through a metal detector to get in. If you want to go by train, take the LIRR to the Hempstead Station. Across the street you can catch the N-16 bus (toward Roosevelt Field) which goes right to the College and leaves at 5:50, 6:20, 6:55 and 7:55 before 8 PM. Takes about 15 minutes and you can use your Metrocard. Coming back, the N-16 doesn't run past 10 PM, butyou can take the N-70-71-72 (westbound) which is on Hempstead Turnpike, about a 10 minute walk from the College. The last bus leaves to go back to the Hempstead Station at 12 mdnight. I'm sure you can arrange a ride back to the train. In addition to Richard and Lucy, Thursday's lineup includes the Harlem Blues and Jazz Band (this is the group of older jazz musicians we've mentioned on this list before), Spirit Wing (Native American), the NCC Vocal Ensemble and Regie Cabico and the NCC Student Poets. Richard and Lucy are listed first on the flyer we got, but that doesn't mean that they'll be opening. 'when I've gone to this festival in the past the room has usually been almost full, and they let people in only between groups, so you should probably plan to arrive before 8 if you want a decent seat. In case anyone is interested, Wednesday's lineup includes The Holmes Brothers (traditional rhythm and blues) and Oscar Brand and Free-Flowing Salt (singer-songwriter). Friday night will be hosted by Eric Schwartz and features Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul and Mary) and his daughter Bethany (who performed in the new artist showcase at Falcon Ridge last summer) and Little Toby Walker (blues). Also performing on Friday are Hip Hop Hoodios, described as "Latino/Jewish hip hop." Like I said, it's eclectic. To get there, take the Meadowbrook Parkway to exit M4 West - Hempstead Turnpike. Pass the Nassau Coliseum on your right and make a right turn just past the Coliseum and before the first pedestrian bridge for Hofstra University (there's a McDonald's on the left). Continue straight into the parking lot for NCC. If I remember correctly, the festival is in Building G, but in any case it is in the first building you see on your right as you pull into the lot. If you need more specific directions, e-mail me off list and I'll do the best I can! - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Find a broadband plan that fits. I remember a show in the 70s with Elliot Murphy and Free Flowing Salt. What a coincidence that TWO groups of musicians would choose that name so many years apart.
