Is there? Well, you could check the website for up-to-the-minute info, Gene.. bwhahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Sorry, couldn't help myself. BTW, any Richard show I ever caught at Godfrey Daniels was sold out; guess the Philly venues are just better revenue generators. - -jim ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Feb 2004 10:30:29 EST From: RockinRonD@aol.com Subject: [RS] Free RockinRonD In a message dated 2/16/2004 5:02:36 AM Eastern Standard Time, sharonG, in her inimitably incoherent yet sorta cute fashion accuses me thusly: >>the college (NCCC) does the best with what they have to work with... so i am assuming we wont be seeing rockin ron there.. or will he go to a free richard show and then bitch about for two weeks later.. betcha...he'll be there...<< Um, no, I shan't be there, just as I haven't been for the last three years (as though anyone really cared). To understand how poor Long Island anything can be, you almost have to live here. As I stated in my post, not everyone will hate the venue. But, as Gene Frey observes so well, with area Richard dates immediately before and after the free NCCC gig, why bother to subject yourself to such an uncomfortable setting if you don't have to? Because it's free? Not my style. In fact, I'll probably not return to Falcon Ridge for the same reason...just too damned crowded (and uncomfortably hot) for my taste. Not sure what sharonG is getting at with the "free richard show" remark, other than the fact that I am often on the press guest list of certain shows when I'm reviewing or writing about the performers. As a reviewer, I'm allowed to bitch and moan all I want; it's what I'm paid to do--offer opinions in a review. SharonG's bitching about my bitching, on the other hand it would seem, is purely personal. Unless she's reviewing my reviewing as an assignement for a publication. Which I doubt she is. But I could be wrong. It's been known to happen. Geez, can this woman carry a grudge. I only wish I knew what for. Since Gene wasn't feeling well I went to the festival alone, but whoever it was I was so anxious to see canceled. An emergency call to Alan Pepper for a substitute resulted in DVN performing. I brought one of their cds home and we were hooked. You do have to go to this festival with an open mind. The line-up is always eclectic - we've seen African and Asian groups performing traditional music and dance, pirates singing sea chanties, modern dance numbers by the college's students. Not everything has been to our taste, but we've had lots of pleasant surprises too - like the jazz band Gene mentioned. It won't cost you a thing to go - not even parking! So, even though the venue isn't the best, you really can't go wrong. I enjoy seeing Richard perform in smaller, more intimate settings and I don't know if the cavernous room he'll be playing in is the best showcase for his music, but if you can't make any of his other shows it's certainly worth going. Besides, there will be lots of people there who are new to his music, and it wouldn't hurt if he had a big group of his most loyal fans there to cheer for him. (Besides, maybe if we all yell "The Weather" at once...)
