They'd all been signed to the same label for European distribution, Acoustic Routes. They were apparently introducing new songs every night on the tour that they'd been working on during the day....some of those have made it to the album I see but some didn't (I remember a wonderful version of 'Hello In There' which I think Jeffrey said was about the first song he ever learnt after digging an old John Prine album out of his dad's collection). I remember them all saying how they'd love to do an album together....I had in mind Cry Cry Cry 2 but this seems more of a 'song swap round the campfire' job. Nothing wrong with that of course. I can wait till they come over in February to get the album. A lot of artists bring some ad hoc product over with them on European tours these days as it means they'll always have something extra to sell at gigs to the fans who already have their regular albums....the extra revenue is apparently crucial to making these tours cost effective. Kate Campbell did it last time she was over. Also, I'm really thrilled to say I've managed to get all three of them to play at our folk club on February 15th as part of the 'Redbird' tour. The plan (if they're willing) is to do it as a genuine 'songwriters circle' rather than individual sets followed by a joint one. I can't wait... Gerry www.TwickenhamFolkClub.com ps Any idea what 'Chautauqua' is? I think someone said it may have been the neme of a Native American tribe.... __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Liotta seems too old. How about Ben Affleck? I think it might be interesting to see what others on the list are listening to. How about if, at the end of our post, we list the cd(s) we are playing that day, even if they aren't exactly in the RS genre. Today I'm listening to Jude Johnstone's Coming of Age, and Beth Nielson Chapman's Deeper Still. > > Glenn Close as the Reunion Hill widow-- the ghost of her husband to be played by Ray Liotta. > > Norman ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2003 07:56:26 -0800 (PST) From: Deb Woodell Subject: [RS] "Reunion Hill" - --- kunigunda wrote: > Glenn Close definitely...or maybe Meryl Streep, but > I invision the husband > gone along time -"even now I find their things...." > which makes him younger > in my mind. - -- "It's ten years since that ragged army Limped across these fields of mine." - -- Hey, why not cast in an atypical fashion? I think it's time Steve Earle became a Hollywood star! It's about the only thing he hasn't done, although he has a good start with his role in HBO's "The Wire." In the meantime, I'm crossing my fingers that we will get a suitable substitute for "Reunion Hill" with "Cold Mountain." Lots of good music planned for that soundtrack. In the British version: Narrator - Rupert Graves His Lover - Emma Thompson His Wife - Gwyneth Paltrow (chosen for her excellent English accent and for name-recognition with distributors in the USA) In the US (independent) version: Narrator - Robert Downey Jr His Lover - Cate Blanchett His Wife - Lisa Kudrow (in semi-frumpy mode) In the US (Hollywood Studio) version: Narrator - George Clooney His Lover - Halle Berry His Wife - Cameron Diaz Also in this version, the comet is on a collision course with Earth and a hastily assembled team of astro-scientists is brought together to save civilisation as we know it. The team is led by Samuel L Jackson, who is assisted by maverick physicist Kurt Russell and veteran Tommy Lee Jones, who is brought out of retirement for this one last job. Although the scientists manage to shatter the comet before impact, fragments still hit the Earth, but only in US cities where a range of famous buildings are blown apart. It's also a moral tale because Halle Berry's character runs off with Kurt Russell, Clooney realises how important his wife and family are to him and the credits roll with them all hugging each other as they look out over the crater that was once Los Angeles. I'm still trying to decide how a car chase could be worked into the Hollywood version, but for now I really must go out and get a life. By the way, for the original (as far as I know) iteration of this idea, go to June 9, 2000 in the archive. The last post (not fare) of the day, by Ron G., kicked off that round. I'll add one more song - Confession: Narrator - Christopher Walken (although Rockin' Ron D recommended James Woods last time around, a fine call there) Doc - Barnard Hughes, the terrific character actor. And Phil, your Bruckheimerization of 'Summer Wind' was a scream. My only fear is that the song would end up as a chest-thumping Celine Dion version over the end titles.
