Really? Why is that? I feel like I'm jumping in the middle of an ages-old debate... - --Chris ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Nov 2003 20:13:40 EST From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] "Smiling" >> Really? Why is that? I feel like I'm jumping in the middle of an ages-old debate... << Nah. It's just that I always skip over it, and literally have never been able to listen to it all the way through. Not to worry, though. Out of the 39 original songs on Richard's four studio CDs and the 13 other songs he's written, I don't think it's too bad a hit-to-miss ratio for him to have one song I just don't like. Ain't no other songwriters who have that kind of batting average in my book. I listen to WUMB on occasion but have never heard an RS song. I must not be listening enough! I'm surprised that Cheryl got #1, but I'm sure it's well deserved. She's written some great songs. Also, the list provides some new names for me to research. There are quite a few I have never heard of! Carrie in KC > WUMB in Boston has released their annual 'Top 100 Artists' list, and our man > Richard has jumped from #5 to #3, a lofty position indeed. I just don't "get it". I remember the last time the list discussed this song, I don't think we could find a person who said they did like this song! Eh, maybe I'll give it another try. Speaking of songs Richard doesn't sing in concert, my husband learned to play "TV Light" for me! He surprised me with it at Falcon Ridge. I guess he knew it was a lost cause to try to get Richard to sing it! Janet __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I remember the last time the list discussed this song, I don't think we could find a person who said they did like this song!< Well now, I wouldn't put at the top of my list, but I never really had anything against it either. But to answer Deb's original question, I think the events in the song could be partially autobiographical, or simply useful tools to get us to think about spiritual things. > Speaking of songs Richard doesn't sing in concert, my husband learned to play "TV Light" for me! He surprised me with it at Falcon Ridge. I guess he knew it was a lost cause to try to get Richard to sing it! Since we all seem to have our favorites (and not so!)....isn't it nice when the artists themselves feel the same way? In fact, knowing a few artists myself, I'm surprised when they like anything they produce - they're usually much harder on themselves then the rest of us!
