Interesting. Another good book about the historical Jesus is "Appointment in Jerusalem" by Max Dimont. The author presents seven possible interpretations of who Jesus was and what evidence exists for each case. Dimont lets you make up your own mind. In one of the seven theories Jesus was a healer and Mary was a mentally-ill patient. The author researched for 20 years for this well-written, intelligent book. Dimont discounts out of hand only one of the seven portraits of Jesus: Jesus as head of a pleasure-seeking, orgiastic commune. Dimont found no supporting evidence. http://www.ereads.com/book.asp?bookid=32 It's available as an e-book, but I found "Appointment in Jerusalem" at the library. Being something of a Taoist, I thought reading it would be a nice way to celebrate Christmas one year, since I feel a little out of place during the Christmas season. (Actually I scored only 54% on Taoism on the Belief-o-Matic quiz at Beliefnet.com. My lowest score was Roman Catholic at 11%. My highest was secular humanist at 100% but I detest the term.)
