The version of "Fenario" that I know best is the Simon and Garfunkel one. Scott, might that have been an influence? 2. Thank you to the person who gave the Peter Mayer link. I've heard the title cut of "Earth Town Square" a couple of times on WUMB and loved it. I admit, I hesitated to get the CD after a couple of unsatisfying experiences lately (buying a disc on the strength of one good song, and not liking the rest), but on your recommendation I'll give this one a try. Well, I don't think you have to be all that old to remember Cat Stevens. I'm not yet 30, and I got to love Cat Stevens from obsessively watching Harold & Maude when I was in high school. But who is Stella Stevens? I always enjoy getting good recommendations off this list. Elizabeth PS--Is anyone else on the list planning to go to see Richard play in Ashland? Lucy Kaplansky and Susan Werner are playing there this Friday, so I've been thinking about going to that as well. ===== Elizabeth ~~~ "Words are like a corridor; put enough of them in a line and who knows where they will take you." - Charles De Lint ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Oct 2003 12:59:54 -0400 From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] Re: new artists >> But who is Stella Stevens? Am Checking out Peter Mayer asap! Thanks Alan , Depaul, et al for the tips. I've already purchased Lori Mckenna and Kris Delmhorst cds due to raves here. I've just discovered him myself and I completely agree with your comments about his songs. Excellent voice too. I can't get "Yukon Sally" out of my head. Thanks are also due to whoever put up (some time back now) the names of Kris Delmhorst and Erik Balkey. Both outstanding. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Oct 2003 13:50:24 -0400 From: "scott shindell" Subject: [RS] Web Site Poll Greetings, I've been thinking about Richard's web site and how to make it more useful and more interesting. I thought I'd begin by asking you all -- his most loyal fans -- what kinds of features, graphics, and information you'd like to see. Thanks in advance. I am not aware of any clips or lyrics published anywhere which is why I included some examples of lyrics. His guitar style veers from open and chant- like, as he drums the guitar (Awake) to simple folk song style (Elijah Jones). Because of this, and as I wanted to previously say, his cd's are great, but nothing compares to seeing him live. Also thought I'd share a little miracle. Peter's good energy apparently was so contagious that all the patrons, after the show, picked up their chairs, folded them, and them put them up against the wall. (something we do after every show.) The other volunteers and I just stood there staring at each other and grinning. A first in all my years volunteering at Godfreys. Not a scrap of garbage left either. Lisa! Just got your post as I was about to zip this off. Thanks for your kind words and Yes the guitar is pretty much my constant companion now. Just used it to accompany my students two weeks ago at recital. It was very glad to be in front of an audience again. (And lends itself beautifully to classical music.) Had a heck of a time getting it back in the case to go home. It just stood there staring at me as if to say, "What! No encore?" ...Screenwriting! Wow. Best of luck. A very unique guitar style indeed (plus he plays a Lowden, which easily wins over this Lowden player) He's very folky, very acoustic, very funny and has a very fascinating guitar style. > -----Original Message----- > > As long as we're mentioning new artists, I'd like to throw > out Peter Mayer > to you guys. A feeling of "THIS is the place to go to find out everything you'd want to know about Richard Shindell." Regularly updated, and NOT just when a new CD is about to come out. Which, as we know with Richard, is just about once in a very blue moon. (Please note: I'm not complaining about the regularity of his releases, simply that they're not the only things going on that we're interested in.) Although they're fan sites, to me the absolute models for this are Gail Cohen's www.darwilliams.net and Jennifer Caputo's www.pattygriffin.net sites. Just my tuppence. (See? I can talk British, too.)
