Actually I'm pretty sure Neil is on this list...Neil, > are you enjoying us all bigging you up?!?!? > > Take care, > Buffy x > Thanks for the comments guys, they're always appreciated (especially the nice ones!) - I used to subscribe to a number of artist discussion lists, but Fish Records is pretty demanding and I couldn't keep up with them all, this is the only one I read all the time. If you only buy one disc this year, make sure it's the Josh Ritter album - head and shoulders above anything else. best Neil - ------------------------------------------------- Fish Records Suppliers of singer/songwriter, folk & acoustic music Shrewsbury, England neil@fishrecords.co.uk http://www.fishrecords.co.uk tel +44 (0) 1743 231546 fax +44 (0) 1743 354354 - ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2003 22:22:14 +0100 From: Linda Bates Subject: Re: [RS] Another Brit [OT] Hi Alan, Sorry for the delay in replying. Like yourself I have large list building up regarding albums to buy from Neil. I'll have to stop listening to Bob Harris and finding gems on this digest. The last cd I bought from Fishrecords was Kris Delmhorst/Songs for a Hurricane. (Great album) I would like the latest Rosie Thomas, Robert Earl Keen, Josh Ritter, Show of Hands and many more. To try and bring it back on topic my first Richard Shindell experience was Cry Cry Cry which I bought through Fishrecords. The lovely Karen Miller also has an internet radio show. "For the best in singer-songwriter, blues, alt-country and contemporary folk, by UK and North American artists" and the best Scottish accents try http://www.spydaradio.co.uk/ As for me, I look in here from time to time but haven't posted much. I do however constantly badger Richard's people (past and present) about bringing him over here to the UK (Jim, Charlie, etc) but so far no luck. When it happens our folk club wants the first gig too! (just five miles from Heathrow so we've still got a chance). It CAN be done....eg James Keelaghan is obviously well known here and he's now on his fourth British tour in 18 months. I also have to credit Neil Pearson for putting me in contact with Richard's music. The first album I bought from Fish was Lucy K's 10 Year Night almost exactly four years ago. Neil insisted I buy Cry Cry Cry too (wouldn't take no for an answer actually). When that one duly registered he warned me about Richard's soon to be released SNP album as early as Nov 1999 when he got advance promos. Again I had no choice but to buy it. Fish have a lot to answer for! Latest purchases are Greg Brown's excellent retrospective and Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman's second album '2' (follow up to '1'!! where they covered 'Spring'). On '2' they do a stonking version of Lowell George's '20 Million Things'. Possibly the best new singer songwriter I've heard all year is a young guy called Kreg Viesselman from Colorado who I also first heard via Fish when they made his debut 'Album Of The Month' earlier in the year. I think many people here would like him....he actually played our club last night and was a complete sensation. Two days earlier in Wales he'd gobsmacked no less a songwriter than Eric Taylor (who he was supporting) to such an extent that ther may be severe career implications. Check him out, Ron! www.KregViesselman.com cheers, Gerry ps a few covers I'd love to hear Richard do..."20 Million Things", "Going Down To Harlan", "Canadee-i-o", "Bleecker St", "Return of The Grievous Angel", "Blues Run The Game", "Seeds and Stems" and if he fancies another trucking song how about the daddy of them all, C. Cody's 'Mama Hated Diesels' (after loving this song for 25 years I've just discovered it was in fact written by Blackie Farrell!) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo!
