Smith" Subject: [RS] Re: California tour dates Re: California and other states hankering for a Richard Shindell gig -- I hear you, I feel your pain, and I always inform the powers that be. I email Richard's manager and say "Mark, we're getting rumblings from California." And he says "Got it." As you can imagine, however, mapping out a tour is much more complicated than this, but it helps to know where Richard's fans are and who's jonesin'. Maybe this'll help. Richard can be heard singing backup vocals on Tom Prout's new CD, Farm Jazz. Here's what Tom has to say about how this came to pass: "While attending a Richard Shindell and Tracy Grammer show ... last spring, [a friend] informed Richard that I was recording a cd. Upon hearing this, Richard generously offered backing vocals. Richard and I played together in High School and lived at the beach in Delaware one summer of fun. A few phone calls and schedule checks later, [my partner] and I loaded up the ADATs and headed to Ashland, Virginia, where Shindell was doing a show. After the show we did a live remote for backing vocals on, "Carpet of Rags", "Our One True Aficionado", and "Apply The Brake". Tom's CD can be purchased -- and listened to -- at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/proutt. Check it out. Richard Shindell is featured in the book. He is quoted on an article about the Gender Gap in folk music and refers to "Reunion Hill" which just came out at the time of that article. There is also an interview with Richard from the late 1990's. It is very interesting as he talks about how he writes a song. Adam __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Hi folks . . . I've gotta ask a quick favor. For those of you who receive the digest version of this list (which is most of you: 260 vs. 70 for the regular version), it is important that you not include the entire previous day's digest along with your message. We've got the list set to bounce all messages that include the phrase "Today's Subjects," which is a giveaway that an entire digest has been attached -- meaning that people would be receiving a bunch of messages they've already seen. Those posts bounce to me, which I then have to edit, and manually forward to the list. It's not a huge deal, but I'm noticing it more and more -- particularly from Hotmail accounts. So, please, only post YOUR message, or at least edit out the part of the previous message that you're not commenting on. Also, it's helpful to change your subject line to something other than: "Re: shindell-list-digest V5 #213," since that doesn't give anyone a hint as to what you're writing about. Thanks! Who would pay an extra $10-$20 a ticket to hear Richard play just a few more songs when he's on tour? I know I sometimes leave feeling I missed some of the great ones and that it passes by too quickly... Of course, I'd probably still feel that way after the "few more songs"... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Oct 2003 14:48:59 -0400 From: Elwestrand Subject: [RS] Hurricanes > As someone once wrote, and others sang: > > But she's a summer storm > And I'm a hurricane > One just blows through town > One blows the town away > And I'm wilder than her > > - -Howie > Or: Kris Delmhorst's idea... Hurricane babe, you always were a hurricane, the way that first youd rage and then youd rain. and all the calm there in your eye, just felt like a lie, it always changed. you could see it coming on for miles, ripping up the trees and fencepost stiles, the wind turns warm, the sky goes green, thats the wildest world Ive ever seen. so blow me down, blow me down and leave me lying in your wake. lay me low, lay me low in your old way. let it rain, let it fall, shake the pictures off the wall and roar away, roar away, hurricane. Ive always kept the company of clouds. I like my lightning bright, my thunder loud. I was never one for bluer skies, all that bright sun droning in my eyes. so blow me down, blow me down and leave me lying in your wake lay me low, lay me low one more time let it rain, let it pour, spin me round a little more and roar away, roar away, hurricane. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Oct 2003 14:34:52 -0700 From: "*Pam*" Subject: Re: [RS] Hurricanes Howie wrote: >>> Or: Kris Delmhorst's idea... <<< Ahhhh, Kris ~ she just blew through Eugene 2 weeks ago, "Five Stories" has had a permanent home in my changer for months now . . . amazing, amazing, amazing! I just wanted to add my voice as another clamoring for Richard to come to California. I had tickets to see him last time he came through, but to my eternal shame and annoyance I showed up at the venue the night AFTER he'd performed. Need to get my calendar straight! Ouch. That would be right up there with paying sticker for my first car. Re Hurricane: fantastic lyrics. Most songs don't hold up too well without the music. I'll have to get me a Kris CD. Never heard her before. Donna Kansas City ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V5 #214 ***********************************
