I was secretely waiting for a cry 3 workshop but it did not materialize. But seeing and hearing RS and Lucy on stage was sufficient. Richard and Tracy too. This guy gets all the hot chicks. I camped high on the ridge so that was a lot of walking back and forth past Happy Town. The Sat eve show with Arlo and family got over so late (midnight) and I was pooped so i had to get tucked in and missed the sing there. Tracy said she went to greet her fans but did not camp. Wimp. lol. Arlo has a real family entourage now... besides his son and daughter he has his grandson on the drums. And we all sang along to This Land Is Your Land in perfect harmony. I believe the title is "So Said The Whipporwhill" or something pretty close to that. It was drop dead gorgeous and one of the best new songs I've heard from him since "Wisteria." I think it'sup there with his best. I also really heard "Che Guevara T-shirt" for the first time and I liked it so much more with just Richard and his guitar instead of a band. Reportedly RS had his kids and wife with him at FRFF, though sadly I never did get a chance to meet any of them. Rumor has it there was a midget Richard stumbling around the grounds. The high point of the festival for me, apart from the new song mentioned above, was Tracy's rendition of "Lord of the Buffalo," with which she did an amazing job. Such a gorgeous song. And to think Dave & Tracy never recorded it. Most songwriters will spend their entire lives never writing a song as beautiful. Dave just sort of had it lying around. Fortunately, I have a recording of Dave actually singing it, even though he flubbed a few lines. Just too amazing for words. And was I the only one who saw that bevy of young girls in front of the workshop stage who were crying their eyes out every time Tracy perfromed one of Dave's songs? Just watching this young, beautiful girl crying like that choked me up and the sadness of Dave's passing swept over me once again. I think it even got to Tracy, who seemed awfully sad at one point on that workshop stage. I would have loved to have made it to Happytown for the song circle on Saturday night, but after all day in the sun I just could not get myself out there in the damp night air (past 1 am in fact) to search and find the campsite, all the while carrying my guitar and looking for a place to park. I guess you almost have to be camping in order to take part in these circles. Or be under 40. :-( Newcomer of the festival for me: a young trio called Girlyman. Easily the best new group with the worst possible name. Reminds me of the best moments of Cry Cry Cry. Only hipper, with wonderful harmonies. An neither Terence Martin nor Jeffrey Foucault belonged on the Emerging Artists Showcase stage on Friday. Both of them classed the place up and underscored how misguided the FRFF folks can sometimes be about certain artists. Each deserves a Main Stage slot for sure. Anyone else sunburned at the neck, earlobes and arms? Sheesh! When will I ever learn. Sorry for the cross-post. It is indeed a great song. I've come to describe Richard's new batch of material as "majestic" . . . his writing is reaching even newer heights!
