Goofy but endearing song that Lucika does quite well. << Hmmm . . . there might be some other one, since there's no violence in "My Name Joe" except the following: On the wall by the time clock Joe's beaming from a photograph Someone drew across his face The waiters began to laugh Joe picked up a hatchet And he tenderized the wall And when he got through Time clock wasn't punching anymore RG ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 May 2003 13:40:20 -0500 From: Dave Hoppenrath Subject: Re: [RS] Psycho Lucy On Sat, 17 May 2003 10:10:04 -0400, depaul" wrote: > I was just thinkin' What's that one Lucy does. I'm pretty sure that her father WROTE it, it's just a rewording of a popular ditty of 50 or 60 years ago that he couldn't stand because it was so sappy, sweet and syrupy. So he just rewrote the words to make it as cold, mean and nasty as possible. The result, paired with the the upbeat, lilting melody, is hilarious. I don't know the name of the original, but it's the one that begins "A, you're adorable, B, you are beautiful, C, you're a cutie full of charm" or something like that, continuing on through each letter of the entire alphabet. So the nasty version has plenty of good lines. I've never been lucky enough to see Lucy and Richard together except during the Cry Cry Cry tour. So all of you who HAVE, do any of you remember she and Richard doing this song together? I can just picture them harmonizing on this one, it would make the nasty lyrics even funnier! So, does anyone know if this has ever happened? - -Dave ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 May 2003 14:59:21 -0400 From: "depaul" Subject: Re: [RS] Psycho Lucy > Well, I've heard her do it twice, and it IS terrific. I'm pretty sure that > her father WROTE it, it's just a rewording of a popular ditty of 50 or 60 Yep. That's the one. I do recall now that she said her father wrote it. Richard thought the hatchet part was pretty funny too because he kept cracking jokes about hatchets after that and Lucy said something like"Wow, you're really hung up on that hatchet." or something like that. This was the concert where Richard first did "the Island". I only know that from Vanessa's review since I arrived late and missed Richard's set. (He performed first) (Sorry I didn't see you, Vanessa - not that I would have known you : ) and I don't recall any unusually bizarre laughs). I'd like to know what happened with this 'Island' song since Vanessa said it was so lovely. I think she said he wanted to rewrite the last verses (Help Vanessa!) but SHE thought it was great as is. So it must be. Maybe the song's trying to be what it is and Richard's having an argument with it. I've done that with b'zillions of mine. The song's ALWAYS right - you may as well just resign. Anyway, just some off the wall meandering thoughts but I'd love to hear ANY version of it. He said that a few of the verses were, in fact, changed, but I couldn't spot the differences. I only remembered the chorus, as it had been a while since I'd last heard it. It really is wonderful. I got the feeling Richard still wasn't sure whether it was done or not. Personally, I'm in love with the song. I had totally forgotten about that song of Lucy's dad's! Thanks for reminding me of that. So much fun. Lucy's playing at Concert Under the Stars again this summer. Maybe we can get her to grace us again with it. ;-) - --V On Sun, 18 May 2003, depaul wrote: > > Well, I've heard her do it twice, and it IS terrific.
