I'm not sure what the protocol is for posting here so I'm simply replying to the Fri. 4/17 digest. This is my first post, so feel free to advise me what the proper procedure is. That said I'll fill you in on RS's gig at the acoustic coffeehouse at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. A very intimate space that maybe seats (and stands) 300. Tickets were $10. I've seen several other acts there such as Willy Porter and the Paperboys and it's never been full. Last night it was full for the 10th aniv. of the coffeehouse. Ellis Paul opened and played about an hour set. I'd never seen him before and I was impressed with his voice and gtr. playing. His songs didn't grab me with the exception of Speed of Trees. He was followed by Lucy who initially seemed a little awkward and was also having some mike and monitor problems. She warmed up a little into the set and brought Richard out to sing on a couple of songs. The highlight of her set for me was her cover of the trad. song Mary and the Soldier. She ended with her 9/11 song. Richard's set as far as I remember was as follows: Che Guevara T-shirt Grey and Green Arrowhead Waiting for the Storm Summer Wind, Cotton Dress The Kid Reunion Hill Last Fare of the Day Cold Missouri Waters Transit The encore was a new song that Lucy, Ellis, and Richard sang from lyric sheets (the name eludes me). Richard was in good form vocally and instrumentally. He was playing the slope-shouldered , sunburst Martin that he flatpicked and fingerpicked in various tunings. I think he had a Gibson J-45 on stage, but he didn't play it all night. He too had some mike problems, some distortion and feedback. The sound crew at Hamilton are students and not pros. Unfortunately the sound problems were a little distracting. Lucy seemed the most bothered by it. The show ended at midnight after having started at 8PM. I'd say that we all got our money's worth. If I'm not mistaken this was Richard's last show before he is off to Alaska and the West Coast.
