I myself still kinda miss the way YH used to keep us informed on this sort of thing. It felt like we were part of it, y'know? I mean, short of the info on the corrected tray card for Courier, the last news on the web site were the post-9/11 posts from 2001. We know from Scott sharing with us that he went into the studio and did 4 demos a while back, but that's about it. I just think, being, well, the people who actually pull out our cash and charge cards and buy the discs and faithfully see the shows, that it might be cool to hear every now and then what's going on. It just seems to me that the list is the ideal target audience, an incredibly loyal, long-term fan base here and that a few updates now and again would promote interest in the music and pique interest for advance sales of upcoming releases. Maybe that's just me, though. Perhaps they're going for an air of mystery! sigh... jim ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 13:15:13 -0400 From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] nothin, what's with you, hello in there... >> we're just assuming the album would be all originals. << I'm not. It still sounds like the new CD is several months away, but at least there is a glimmer of hope. Hopefully a lot of discussion about a new CD on this list will impart a sense of urgency in all involved, and help speed the process along. Yeah, right. Hoo-boy, I make myself laugh sometimes. 'Shore-related,' eh? That could mean a lot of things - Beach Boys, Belafonte, Dinah, Montezuma, Springsteen, The Theme from Jaws, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, or, maybe, a cover of the 70's 'classic' Moonlight Feels Right, featuring Rad Lorkovic on vibes. At least he already got 'Lazy' out of his system. >>p.s. Oh . . . and it took me a few minutes, but it finally hit me that >>your Subject is a paraphrased line from John Prine's "Hello". << You are correct, sir. If it is paraphrased, it's because three different lyrics sites gave three different versions of the line, and I gave up and picked the one that I thought was right. Johnny, tell him what he's won.... I would think a few covers would be on the album. His cover of "Man of Constant Sorrow" is worthy of release though my gut instinct is that is a long shot. The Gram Pasons tune he did at Newport Folk Fest last year would be a great addition to an album as well. I would like to see "I Am" make an album as well. "I Am" is better now than when available for download and considering it isn't on a marketable CD, he really should release it again. I know many may disagree but I have heard many songs about 9/11 and nothing, in my opinion, tops "I Am". The structure is simple, the message is complex...absolutely brilliant. Originally the smiles were intended for you, Lisa Davis. But they can be for Lisa Elwestrand too. That worked out nicely. You guys really really don't want to read my opinion about abortion here on the list. Trust me. :) Richard does write music which relates to war and so that debate seemed relevant to the list. I'm not sure any of his songs relate to abortion. Money For Floods is about unplanned pregnancy, welfare or lack there of, and I guess many young men being irresponsible dogs. But unless I've missed something in the lyrics, Richard doesn't suggest that Eliza should have or "I wish I'd aborted Louise in July". His songs dealing with children come from a loving, happy I have them, wish I still had them, I'd do anything to protect them point of view (Castaway, Abuelita, You Stay Here). As for the Republican anti-choice platform, yes I totally agree that it really flys in the face of their founding principles. And as for my name, well, I think I have explained this before, but it goes like this: I started out many years ago on the Dar and RS list. I didn't want to use my work address so I chose my internet based e-mail which I romantically named after something in a book I love. Anyways, at that point I didn't know you could make actual friends on the web! I thought I was just going to be learning about Dar and RS. Now that I have made many, actual meet-in-person friends it is very silly to be going by a pseudonym. But, you have to admit, that its more interesting that Lisa. My mother was a teacher and thought it was so cute to name me the same thing as four of the other teachers were naming their babies. Ah my mother, what a rebel ;-). Lisa ah but to be Elwestrand....... ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 14:15:12 -0700 (PDT) From: Janet Cinelli Subject: [RS] Covers OH I hope this song makes it on his new cd.
