Yes, I live in California with a roomate who's a psychic, but that doesn't mean I am 100% liberal! I have some conservative views and some liberal views. I love the theory of the Republican party - let the people govern themselves whenever possible, but also like the generous spirit of the Democrats, plus the environmental thrust of the Greens. I think that one of the reasons we have so much trouble accomplishing things in this country (and everywhere really) is that people have to take a side and lump together a set of beliefs. I doubt that many people really support every part of a party's platform. I think the pro/anti choice issue is the most glaring example (with dissent within each camp). But you have to choose one of these platforms to vote. Oh sure you can vote for 'dark horses,' but its a bit dangerous in close elections. My father now votes Democrat, though he's been a lifelong Republican. He believes in a women's right to choose (which frankly makes me pretty proud of him coming to this perspective in his seventies). I also know some former Democrats who are now Republicans because they now want to protect their money. But, that really isn't the point. The point is that we have to chose from one rigid belief set or the other. I find it very frustrating. I hope this systems breaks down someday. Lisa Who is not surprised RS wants to see us continue to debate. He clearly loves ideas and learning. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Apr 2003 15:34:04 -0600 From: "Bill Chmelir" Subject: [RS] For Lisa :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
