It's cynical with a good tempo, and "out there." Like a couple other of his tunes, it makes me think "wow, where did this come from!" For nine bucks, you should buy a few as stocking stuffers. (Hey, it IS Buddah's birthday today, according to my calendar!) It would all depend on whether he actually likes any JD stuff himself. He sure does the difinitive version of Springsteen's "4th of July Asbury Park (Sandy)". brian. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-shindell-list-digest@smoe.org [mailto:owner-shindell-list-digest@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Jim Colbert Sent: Friday, April 04, 2003 7:55 AM To: shindell-list@smoe.org Subject: [RS] ochs and denver > To Jim: > (Man, where's Phil Ochs when we need him...) Pleasure of the harbour... I need to get that on CD. What a nice album. > > John Denver actually wrote and sang some nice songs. PPM - 'Leaving on a Jet > Plane' is one. 'Big Feather Bed' isn't bad either; hey I'm a family guy. > I was listening at the time to Harbour Lights concert, which is actually pretty darn good... I think the sticker saying 2 hours of acoustic Denver is a bit of a misnomer, it's a full band but it is definately an acoustic feel and the guitars are certainly wood and with holes in them... he he... but it's a disc I don't apologize for listening to. For people roughly my age, as I just said on our guitar list, Denver was kind of viewed more as an "entertainer..." and people forgot that he wrote some darn pretty songs. Now, RS related... I was trying to picture Richard doing a John Denver song and just plain couldn't. Maybe one of the covers- me and my uncle, darcy farrow, even el paso, something like that. jim ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Apr 2003 22:19:42 -0400 From: Howie Subject: [RS] Phil Ochs, 12/19/40 - 4/9/76 At 03:27 AM 4/4/2003, Bart wrote: >To Jim: >(Man, where's Phil Ochs when we need him...) In Phil's memory, take a moment (or two) tomorrow to exercise your right to free speech (before it's taken away). A few suggestions: - - Join an anti-war demonstration. - - Write or call your favorite (or least favorite) politicians and give them a piece of your mind. - - Blow up your local Army recruiting office. (Just kidding about that.) - - Play Phil's music, as long and as loud as you can.
