Couldn't say which tour I last heard it on, though. Fishing Transit Poncho and Lefty (encore) Farewell To St. Dolores (encore) No, I didn't make it to this show . . . this was as reported on the Dave-and-Tracy list . . . It reminded me, though, of the discussion I had with Richard about "Gray-Green" . . . I asked him after the show Tuesday night how he spelled the first word in the title since it has two spellings . . . g-r-a-y, which is how he said he spelled it, and g-r-e-y, which is how *I* spell it. I told him that the latter of the two spelligs *looks* grey to me; he said that he had looked it up in the dictionary to see if there was a preferred spelling and that the 'e' version was the alternative spelling. Oh . . . another thing about his recent shows . . . he's singing "Bloody Hill" again during "Arrowhead". For a while there, he was singing "bloody hell". I was partial to the former so I'm glad he went back to it. The Beachland Ballroom is in the old Slavic Village area of Cleveland around East 157th St. and not too far from Lake Erie. It actually has has two venues, a ballroom setting and a barroom stage. Richard and Tracy played in the ballroom which had some very beautiful hand painted murals on the walls of pastoral scenes with Slavic people in ancestoral costume. The ballroom also has excellent sound. Tracy opened up and went into her story about Dave Carter and his songs immediately. My wife and I are not very familiar with Dave and Tracy's work so I won't try to give a set list although I do remember "Winter When She Goes" and the Sumerian chant song. Byron Isaacs backed up on bass and harmonies and Richard played on a couple of songs, including the Sumerian chant song. Tracy had a grey outfit and looked quite slim. Richard was wearing a sport jacket, a Beachland Ballroom T-shirt (hmmm has he gained a pound or two?), and jeans. He seemed a litlle nervous at first and forgot a line once that I recall but on balance I thought he was very confident and his guitar sounded excellent. He apologized about making disparaging remarks about the Cleveland Indians last time he was in town (well, they were playing the Yankees after all). Set list, from what I remember: Beyond the Iron Gate, Wisteria(excellent), Grey Green (I liked that song), Che Guerva T-shirt (beautiful lyrics but one chord), Arrowhead (and a long story about that song- very interesting), Reunion Hill (the best-you could hear a pin drop!), Next Best Western, Fishing, Darkness Darkness, Are You Happy Now, Pancho and Lefty (along with a story about Townes VanZandt in the men's room), Last Fare of the Day, Transit(very good too), and Farewell to St. Delores. Tracy's fiddle was magical on Reunion Hill and a couple other songs. Byron was very unassuming and played the bass very smoothly, he has a good backing voice too. I think this has been his basic set so there were no surprises. I also think some people were disappointed he didn't play some of his other stuff or Cry,Cry, Cry songs. I went away still thinking that he is one very talented man, I could have heard more.
