Are you aware of the months long discussion and input that the Richard List members had with regard to what songs would be included on "Courier"? It's clear to me that more thought went into this project. Secondly, in my view, Richard's performace of his older songs on this live album were just wonderful, and as a fan I genuinely appreciated the care he took in revisiting them so creatively. I can't really say this for most of the performances on "Out There Live." >>It always irks me to see newcomers fretting about imminent ejection, punishment etc - it makes me wonder what hellish listserv Gulag is lurking out there! :)<< Ahem. Thanks, whoever it was, with the information about the latest pressing of Sparrows Point. I'll bring that to the attention of our guy over at Shanachie. On another note, I've been in lurk mode for too long, but I've been paying attention and passing things along to Richard and his manager Mark Spector. Please don't assume that the relative silence from this camp is an indication of indifference. It is not. We're still getting our feet under us, and appreciate your patience. And input. And support. Have a happy -- and safe -- holiday. Scott _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses. (1) OTL was a bit of a disappointment for me. i only play it to hear a few select tracks like February and When i was a boy to get the intimate solo effect. overall, while a few parts of the recording are well captured (like the two sparse tracks i mentioned), i found the recording mix a bit lacking in a lot of other places (overall tonal quality, and a very narrow soundstage) which really takes away from the "live experience" on my ultra-expensive stereo styem. on a good recording (see below), i feel like i am there reliving a concert. (2) Courier has really perhaps become my favorite RS album. it capture the essence of the live Richard performance. interestingly enough, it gives one a perspective of being "several rows" back in terms of recording mix and soundstage and hearing it through a well set up PA system like from his recent tours with band. the only thing that is missing in my richard collecion is are live solo songs which capture the coffee house effect (i know...probably not doable given these were recorded in a large venue)...sigh. i still remember seeing Richard at Club Passim in Cambridge where i literally could have grabbed richard's ankle from our front row table. (don't worry, i restrained myself from doing it!) (3) Finally, a recommendation of another great live folks album that wins for me musically, and is a recording/audiophile masterpiece: Patty Larkin: A go'go on a good stereo system...you ARE THERE at a solo Patty concert. very highly recommended. it puts OTL to shame, and gives Courier a run for the money. (in fact, if i recall correctly, Courier and a go'go have same recording engineer). back to lurkdom, Derek ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2002 11:38:47 -0500 From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: [RS] Wherefore art Sweeney? Sorry to burden the list with this, but has anyone heard from Charlie Sweeney recently? His Shindell-list digests has been bouncing as undeliverable for well over a week, and even after I manually uns*bbed him from the list, I'm getting "cannot deliver" emails. The last email address I have for him is charlie@somethingblack.com, but I keep reaching dead ends. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
