"...how can a man be father to the son of God..." Richard content: i was playing Wonderland last night (for the first time since last christmas) and enjoyed it immensely including especially Before You Go. happy holidays everyone, derek ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Dec 2002 19:07:50 -0500 From: LBECKLAW@aol.com Subject: [RS] Re: before you go D'oh! Am I the only Richard S. lister and fan who listened to Before you Go and thought "oh what a moving poignant ballad about a mother saying goodbye to her grown child before he/she leaves home."? And if so, can I chalk it up to being Jewish? Anyway you look at it, it's a beautiful song that moves me still. Happy holidays to all! Every show I've been to has been standing only aside from those seats. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-shindell-list-digest@smoe.org [mailto:owner-shindell-list-digest@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Michaela O'Brien Sent: Monday, December 16, 2002 10:52 AM To: shindell-list@smoe.org Subject: [RS] Updated Tour Schedule Hi all, As promised, the latest tour updates... I think the reason is the timing. Out There Live came out only a year after The Green World. The live album was recorded from TGW tour and I sense it was an afterthought. In contrast, Courier came out nearly two years after SNP. Richard et al. had time to think and plan the concerts that the live album was recorded from. Richard's live album was also focused on earlier material whereas Dar's wasn't. For instance, Dar had only the two crowd pleasers (Babysitter and "When I was a Boy") from The Honesty Room on OTL whereas Richard's live album had five songs from Sparrows Point. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Dec 2002 18:18:47 -0800 (PST) From: adam plunkett Subject: Re: [RS] Courier and live albums I agree totally. The earlier material is material written before the band and it was CD worthy to hear their interpretations. Also, I believe Richard's band accompanies him perectly. In the case of 99 percent of singer songwriter swith bands(in my opinion), the band tends to over shadow the singer. And the singer is why people pay money to see them. And I think part of the reason Richard w/ band is still so much fun to see and hear, is that Richard gives a very different kind of performance when he has the band behind him. Too many people tend to give the same solo performance, when the occasion calls for something else completely. Man, this is barely coherent. I better get back to talking about phronimoi and external reason statements. - --V On Mon, 16 Dec 2002, adam plunkett wrote: > Also, I believe Richard's band accompanies him > perectly. I believe Dar's live album was planned well before the tour. I believe it was strictly a money issue -- Dar's management knows how rabid her fans are for anything she would put out and wanted, I'm guessing, to be able to take advantage of that (which I'm sure helped to cover not only the cost of "The Green World" but also AGF's absorption of Dar into their organization. On the other hand, "Courier" was released so that Richard could regain his control over the songs originally recorded with Shanachie. Charlie could speak to this best, of course, as I'm not all that fluent in record label legal matters. That's not to say that Richard's fans aren't as rabid for his material -- especially considering that "Prolific" isn't his middle name -- but I seriously believe that the motives for the two records were miles apart.
