They seem really comfortable playing...when they go into their individual riffs that showcase their talents . They sound cohesive and lovely and (I date myself)...they grooved! - ------------------------------ Did he have a full band on Saturday night? On Friday he was accompanied by just a bass player. Someone else asked about "I Am"... it's been floating around on the various file sharing networks (Gnutella, Kazaa, etc.), apparently recorded live in a radio station studio. It was written after 9/11 and I believe it's based on a poem that is linked off Richard's website. Since he was recording the same songs multiple nights and choosing the best cuts, there were very few songs that didn't make it onto the two official discs. (I was especially fond of the Richard and Lucy playing Gram and Emmy Lou version on "Love Hurts" though...) (Don't forget, guys, if you see something online please feel free to share the link!) I guess it's a reflection on how the new management views this list that we hadn't heard it officially, y'know? Maybe it's just me working in advertising for quite a few years, but I'd have at least dropped a teaser or two to get people a little curious and start our Pavlonian salivation process! Don't forget, too... Courier is a great holiday gift for folk fans that don't have it. (speaking of which, any heard Darryl Purpose's Gift of the Maggi? I'm ordering one of those today... intended to a week or so back. I guess the first pressing sold out completely!) And by the way, vze2qcym@verizon.net (you didn't sign the post), there are a lot of posts in the archives about "I am". Check 'em out- there was some great discussion about it, people tended to have very strong opinions of it. Jim Colbert somewhere near Mt. I wanted to respond to John in Tampa by saying that I think taping is okay, only one thing - no money. As a Deadhead I speak from experience and don't mean to offend anyone, but money pretty much ruins everything. Trading is a much better option. Also, has anyone asked Richard how he feels about this? I think that he is one of the best writers this side of Hemingway, but he does need to make a living. I would hate to see homespun tapes cutting into sales of Courier, so this is a pretty big step and one that should be taken cautiously. - --Jerry Gillespie ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Dec 2002 12:06:46 -0500 From: JL Subject: Re: [RS] Taping Shows Sounds about right to me, Jerry First, RS should decide if he wants this. And...keeping money out of it eliminates many problems. John At 10:02 AM 12/10/2002 -0500, you wrote: >Thanks Jim. It's worth noting, though, that if you're really jonesing for more live tracks, there are also live and alternate Richard cuts in a few other sources: sonora sessions bonus disc across the blue divide EP spring EP falcon ridge folk festival main stage live album greenwich village folk festival kerrville 25th anniversary album (and box set, which included this disc) numerous live and studio tracks on the old Fast Folk records, now handled by the Smithsonian The EPs are out of print but still pop up regularly on e-bay and through the collector sources and are normally fairly affordable. (pick up an issue of Goldmine for a lot of sources of out-of-print material.) Cheers! Jim ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Dec 2002 15:49:08 -0800 From: "Sandra J. Someone else posted the link to this forum a few weeks ago (there were two or three links in the e-mail, to an interview with Richard and Tracy Grammer). I didn't save the e-mail, but if you go to the archives you should find it pretty quickly. ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V4 #322 ***********************************
