It is with great sadness that I bring news that journalist, musician, and long time RS list regular Lee Wessman died in February. A little strange to just be writing this now, but good friend and ex-lister John Clary just found out the news. Lee, who was 47, died at his home from a brain aneurysm while he was lying on his living room sofa watching the Winter Olympics. He was a good guitar-pickin' pal to many of us here and on the GuitarStuff list, and he'll be missed by all who enjoyed his wit and wonderful writing style. His wife, Kelli, and the family ask that contributions be directed to a college fund for his daughters, Rachel, 15, and Lauren, 14. It is the Wessman Memorial Fund, c/o El Dorado Savings Bank, 4040 El Dorado Road, Placerville, CA 95667. I never met Lee in person, but exchanged e-mails with him a few times, mostly along the lines of being a fellow Californian/Shindell lister. The tribute in the Sacramento Business Journal was very nice. I also searched the archives using his name and sampled posts that he had written while on the list. It was bittersweet, but seemed like an appropriate way to evoke his memory. I particularly enjoyed reading his post regarding his earthquake experience at the Giants/A's World Series game in 89 and how it gave him insight to the characters in Richards songs.
