Or he has been listening to Bruce's versions, cause that's the way Bruce sings it in concert (though i think he does not use 'for' but 'and' which is even bettr imho). I missed it in RS' Courier version but it is not in the original lyrics. I guess Bruce changed them while performing the song and likes them better Ronnie _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Apr 2002 14:05:37 +0100 From: "alan.teather" Subject: RE: [RS] make me happy! Have you ever come across the idea that you open your mouth and it invites trouble? Well I just have. I went to see Tom Pacheco last night and what should be there in the middle of the room but half a dozen leery football type fans shouting out for Tom to sing the songs they had just seen on the albums for sale desk. They can't of been fans as they were also talking through the 1st set. During the interval they all went to the toilets so I put a beer mat on their drinks with S.T.F.U. on it. One of their mates saw me and so they all asked me what it meant. So I told then and it worked.......mind you I never hung around after the gig !!!!! Alan Who do you know who has had Cancer ? Remember them by sponsoring my wife in her fund raising efforts for Cancer research here in the UK. Wow! Who are all these obnoxious drunks I keep hearing about on this list and why do they keep showing up at Richard's gigs? I have a hard time even imagining these scenarios when they are described here. So far, with the exception of a chatty wine and cheese crowd at a free outdoor show in Palo Alto, the crowds at Richard shows in CA are very respectful, almost reverent. Here's hoping they remain that way! Doncha love surprises? So I get to the Inter Media Arts Center (IMAC) in Huntingon, Long Island early last night with buddy James O'Malley (a truly great songwriter in his own rite) in tow, stroll over to the merch table and see Gabe Unger stacking Lori McKenna CD's: Me: Wait a minute, Lori McKenna isn't opening tonight is she? Gabe: Yes she is. Me: But this was never advertised, how come I didn't know? Gabe: (knowing smirk) Me: This is incredible. This makes me very happy. What a surprise! Gabe: Tell the promoter you're happy that Lori's opening. He's been really difficult. Me: I'm not just happy, I'm ecstatic! This is a first! Lori McKenna on Long Island! And so it was. Such a treat. Lori opened with "God Will Thank You," then brought Richard out for a truly stirring rendition of "Die Young" that I think just had the Long Island audience stunned. She went on to do two new songs I'd never heard before, both of which were beautiful (one had something to do with white knuckles, red ankles, on a ledge somewhere). She got a huge hand after leaving the stage and I really thought for a minute she might come back for an encore. Sadly she didn't. Afterward, Gabe told me she had sold nearly 50 CD's. I think that's just great. Me and O'Malley got to chat with her alot afterward--she's a sweetheart as I'm sure many of you already know. O'Malley was smitten with her. We commiserated on the wonders of Josh Ritter's debut album. She's been covering "Lawrenceville, KS" and I've been covering "Williamsburg" from the CD. We both agreed it was as awesome a debut record as we'd ever heard. Oh yeah, and Richard...he was great, the band was especially tight--LOVE John Putnam who keeps getting better all the time. And did I mention that the show was broadcast live over the WUSB airwaves throughout Long Island and parts of Connecticut? Richard flubbed the lyrices to half the songs he covered, but he tried very hard to cover things up each time. Seemed to me like he was a bit distracted, but maybe the live broadcast had something to do with it. And this is really weird: Richard sat through the entire first set! How strange is that? I have NEVER seen him sit while performing. I meant to ask him about it after the show but we got into talking about wine, cigars and writing that I never got around to it. Typical set list, all the standard RS tunes, though I was glad he did Simon's American Tune. Saw listers Gene and Isabelle and Sharon of the Gold, who took off before I could say goodbye. And it was announced that Dar Williams will be at IMAC on August 2! What a way to cap off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Even though Richard and I failed, once again, to have a cigar together (it was already 1 AM). Hope he enjoys the Avo XO double corona I gave him. And he sat both times I saw him play at The Point, and the last time I saw him play at the Tin Angel, as well. But on each of these occasions, he was playing two sets, so I just figured he was saving his energy. - --V RockinRonD@aol.com wrote: >And this is really weird: Richard sat through the entire first >set! Yes, in Pittsburgh, he changed the line to make it a reference to eternal love. Jumped out at me, since I've been used to hearing it the other way for the last 30 years or so. > > Peace, Love, and Mischief, > Vanessa, taking a break from solving the problem of free will Hope you're taking a long break!
