Richard's version is pretty amazing . . . the raw feel to it is certainly
*considerably* different to Dar's, having a spookiness that Dar's lacks,
but I don't know that I'd consider one better than the other.

I have seen Peter sing "The Ocean" twice . . . a couple of the most
powerful performances I've ever seen. That said, Dar's performance of it
at Falcon Ridge a couple of years ago was way beyond chopped liver! It
was probably one of the most passionate I've ever heard her sing *any*
song!

are you kidding?!?!?!?! RS's version of Calling the Moon was strong yes, i
will agree, and woven almost as if it was his own song.  but even his folk
magic is NOTHING in comparison to Dar's own original intent.  her version of
her own song is perfect.
    i'm only hoping i don't get my ass kicked for offering this opinion in
the richard club.  please believe me, just because i was introduced to his
music through the Cry Cry Cry project with Dar and Lucy Kaplansky, doesn't
mean i haven't developed into a tried and true fan by now.  every note i
hear draws me in closer to the musical web he weaves.  although Dar will
probably always hold the #1 spot in my heart, Richard is a close second.
