I'm wondering what the track list is for the Sonora Sessions e.p. Presumably Sonora's Death Row is on there, which I've been wanting for many years. Don't suppose Friend of the Devil or Lakes of Pontchartrain are on it as well? Joe Moorehouse ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Feb 2002 09:37:06 EST From: RockinRonD@aol.com Subject: [RS] Out There I was in the audience at Fez in New York City a couple of years ago when a woman in the audience actually got up on the stage next to Richard and started dancing while he played...I even vaguely recall her trying to grapb the microphone. We were all freaked by the incident. This clearly shook him up a bit and it was indeed a disturbing moment for a while. Finally, she got down and left. I think he defintely learned something from that experience. You never know what kind of kook may be in the audience--folksingers are not immune from that kind of terrorism. Obviously, that woman's comment about his spirituality signaled a similar situation. He handled it with aplomb it would seem. Not sure what Dar would have done, but I suspect she would have done the same. Hello All I have been reading your postings when I can but am pretty much silent....and a huge RS fan. I am eagerly anticipating the delight of a double RS weekend in 2 weeks. As much as I appreciate hearing good musicians playing together, I prefer to see Richard (and Lucy also) unaccompanied. They weave multiple worlds and I'm taken along , transcendant, to a the memory of a fragrant bush at my childhood home (ours was lilac)...to the yearning in Mary Magdalen... Well, I'm preaching to the choir here so I'll stop. But just wanted to say "hi" ----and to invite anyone who spots me at either venue & feels so inclined (I'm 5'1" w/ curly blonde hair & will be alone) to say hello. Best.... Sure, Shindell handled that one-time occurrence with aplomb, but can he do it six gigs in a row? "It's clear you wore that same shirt at yesterday's show. Please elaborate." "Your songs almost never have the letter J in the title. Please elaborate." "Kenworth trucks contribute to the ozone hole. Please elaborate." and so forth. Use your imaginations :) About Dar's stage presence - Dar has been pretty much herself onstage for maybe ten years now. Nobody would accuse her of putting on a polished, high-energy rollercoaster of a live show - but that's not her charm. No performer can please everybody, which is why we have a diversity of music to listen to. One of the nice things about folk (like blues and jazz) is that on any given night, a good listener can go check out a very successful performer they've been hearing about - and totally not get it. That's great! Likes mean nothing without dislikes. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Feb 2002 10:41:58 -0600 From: "Kristen Myshrall" Subject: Re: [RS] Re: dar and richard People don't seem to see that line that they are completely stepping over...At the St. Louis show someone went up to Richard and asked him "Why on Earth did you move to Argentina....was it for financial reasons?" Why would you ask someone you didn't know, questions like that about their personal life?? Richard, as usual, answered with grace "No my wife is from there, so it was for emotional reasons" The guy continued on asking about what kind of house he had there, and more about the financial part.....it was pretty clear that Richard was uncomfortable. I felt so bad for him! Maybe we should start handing out books that tell those particular fans what is an acceptable question and what is delving into their personal lives. Surely fans have questions and it's up to the artists to decide if they want to answer them. What's wrong with asking RS why he moved to Argentina ? It could well have been for financial reasons, Hell I've moved both up and down in houses for financial reasons so if it was to my advantage to move to another country surely I would have nothing to hide like that. As for the religious question in earlier posts, to that person it was clear that Richards lyrics hit a chord with her in a personal way. Maybe it wasn't the time or place to shout it out loud but it would be an acceptable question to ask an artist over here after the gig. For the crowd to get up on stage was definatly a no no but one needs to ask where the security was? Surely we don't need to put artists on a pedestal so we can revere them and treat them like gods. They are like you and me only the make better music than me for one. I think we need to lighten up a wee bit. By the way what was the Evil Gary Episode as this was before I joined. As I say, this is not written in a combative mood but a questioning one. Take care, Alan People don't seem to see that line that they are completely stepping over...At the St. Louis show someone went up to Richard and asked him "Why on Earth did you move to Argentina....was it for financial reasons?" In her attempt to come off as some psuedo-intellectual, she embarrassed herself and probably those sitting with her. This should be a lesson to anyone who may want to pipe up with rude and disruptive questions at an RS concert in the future....sit down and let the music do the talking!!! Ok, I've had my say and I'll go back to lurking.... .......but before I go, I know this is a longshot, but if the two Samples fans I met in line are listers....drop me a line, I'd like to excahnge a little more info! He'll be playing on March 16. Tickets go on sale Feb. 25. Looking forward to hearing Richard there in May . . .
