Please elaborate." Is it me, or was this a very rude thing to do? >> I thought that comment was WAY out of line. Richard handled the situation well. Without being overly obvious, he put her down quite well with a non-offensive reply "I let my songs do the talking" and ending the short discourse with another, to the effect of "I don't say much anymore." Technical knockout "TKO" for Shindell for a completely out of line obnoxious comment from the peanut gallery. Sorry if this seems harsh, but it struck a bad chord here. I am probably one of the few, or possibly the only, non-dar fan on this list. The last time I saw her (went to see the opener), dar had a FANTASTIC bunch of players behind her as a band, and could have made a decent night of music, but instead she just gabbed on and on and on in between each song, taking forever to tune her guitar...there was no momentum and she may as well have been up there by herself because she certainly wasn't taking advantage of the fact she had compiled a group of great musicians to play with her. When I last saw Richard...he also had a fantastic band, and he gave them lots of room to play and it was just a fantastic, classy performance. This by no means is intended to be argumentative, it's just a different perspective. I could only hope for dar that her stage presence could grow to the elegance of Richard's. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Feb 2002 13:41:22 -0800 (PST) From: Deb Woodell Subject: [none] Hello, everyone, I apologize for another cross-post. Just wanted to report in with my "dispatch" from the Great Backyard Bird Count. I realize not everyone is into nature, but for those who are, this weekend is a great way to get totally in touch. From now through Monday, people across the United States (world, maybe) are asked to spend a bit of their time to count the ornithological visitors to their back yards, and report the information at www.audubon.org or www.birdsource.org. Scientists are able to extrapolate the data from your time and place and determine whether the myriad bird species are showing significant population changes and, from there, can work on determining the causes. Trust me on this, if you try this, you will realize how much "company" you really have in this world. But, she'll just pick up an acoustic, give you that innocent little girl grin, quietly laugh and say? "Nevah!" Yahoo! I could only hope for dar that her stage presence could > grow to the elegance of Richard's. > Well I have to agree with the camp that says Dar has positively influenced Richard. He used to be pretty shy and somewhat ill- at-ease on stage. Touring with Dar helped him and Lucy Kaplansky open up quite a bit. She really either nurtured them or lead by example. Dar is super open about herself and her experiences. That's her style. If you get to talk to her she'll reveal even more. I think part of Richard's "elegance" is his desire to be enigmatic and somewhat mysterious. It's ok in a performer, but I wouldn't want to date him. I'll leave that to Vanessa, Delores and Sandy (new lurker - where are you Sandy, -cmon introduce yourself)!
