I absolutely adore Dar's stage presence. What I meant is that Richard's stage presence has markedly improved since '97. I absolutely adore Dar's stage presence. No, wait!!! I'd already begun to compose a reply. I was just trying to pose it in as non-incendiary a manner as I intend it to be taken. I was glad to read that someone else mentioned occasionally being disappointed in Dar's stage presence, as this happened to me a few months ago, and having been out of the loop for awhile, I wasn't sure which one of us had changed. A new colleague and I found that we had similar tastes in music, so I had been gushing about Dar, whom I absolutely adore , and my new friend accompanied me to a show. Dar's normally endearing nature seemed to have veered toward "goofiness," to the point that she forgot too many lyrics, giggled with the back up musician, a local whose name I didn't make it a point to remember, and acted as if she were under the influence of something or other. Her stories lacked depth, coherence even at times, and her intro to Yoko Ono was a turn-off. I was not only disappointed to have spent at least twice as much for the ticket as I had when Dar was "unknown," but I was truly embarrassed that I had made such a fuss over her. RS content: I just bought tickets to see Richard in April and invited the same friend to come along. She politely declined. (We are going to see Lowen and Navarro soon, a taste we are certain we share, so I don't *think* it's my company she is avoiding!) If the Dar experience is the reason, it's a shame that she'll miss the Richard experience. Again reiterating that I adore Dar, but I appreciate that at least one other person is brave enough to admit that s/he has been disappointed, SW. Got something to say? Say it better with Yahoo! We buy tickets to hear individuals perform, not answer personal questions. Also, I think if one listens to the music and the words, it's not that difficult to see how Richard is influenced by spiritual matters. Trying to get a performer to divulge personal stuff is just so tackly! I thought Richard's response was very gracious. For the longest time, whenever I was fortunate enough to see him, he didn't/wouldn't play it. It was always amongst my favorites, so I am pleasantly surprised that its now in every set list.
