I would hear them play the sp version of AYHN every so often. Now, that doesn't mean they aren't playing him at all though- it's not often I get to catch the entire folk show, which is sometimes quite good. But I think tonight during the folk show I might call up and request something. jim colbert state college/bellefonte PA ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 Feb 2002 14:21:23 -0500 From: "Michaela O'Brien" Subject: [RS] Updated Tour Schedule Hi all, Below is an updated tour schedule. * indicated Joan Baez show, featuring special guest Richard Shindell(opening), and introducing Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer (Joan's band). The basic premise of the column is that "it's a crime against culture that folk singers aren't more popular." Here's a brief excerpt: "Folk music is lucky to get a couple of hours of airplay a week late at night on KPFA. Partly, it's an image problem. People's perceptions of folk music are stuck in stereotypes: the patchouli- saturated, "Kumbaya"-warbling '60s throwbacks who groove to banjo-laden ditties about coal strikes in Appalachia or too-earnest protest songs about nuclear disarmament. "But listen to any of the top folk singers today -- Greg Brown, Richard Shindell, Nerissa and Katryna Nields, Dar Williams, to name a few -- and their work spans a whole range of subjects and dips into many musical influences. "Shindell has written songs about deportation from the INS agent's point of view and another about Mary Magdalen's relationship with Jesus -- "Long ago I had my work/ When I was in my prime/ But I gave it up, all for love/ It was his career or mine." "Yeah, a sacrilegious song about a biblical figure. That's got top 40 written all over it. Gee, maybe with her $28 million contract buyout, Mariah Carey can start her own label and record a cover version of it." To find the whole column, go to sfgate.com and do a search under "McManis." The column is called "Mariah Carey's golden handshake." - -lee ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Feb 2002 19:34:40 -0000 From: "alan.teather" Subject: RE: [RS] Updated Tour Schedule Hell that's some tour but I didn't see any dates for the UK or Europe?
