Don't know if any of you out there have seen either of these two videos, but I enthusiastically recommend both. Then again, there isn't much out there in the way of DVD Performance videos unless you can't live without MegaDeath, Mettalica and Madonna. I caught the last four songs when the Prine concert was shown on PBS a few months ago...seeing the entire thing, along with an interview clumsily handled by John Hiatt, was just sensational. John Prine is a God. Perhaps I can understand Hiatt's ineptitude--he must have been overwhelmed by being in the presence of greatness. I probably would have behaved in the same way. The Jack Elliott documentary is a bit long and, aptly enough, rambling, but hearing all these points of view about the man from Arlo Guthrie, Dave Van Ronk, Kris Kristofferson and others was truly fascinating. Kinda outlines the entire folk movement and how Jack was such an integral part of it. Interesting stuff. Also, don't forget the PBS American Roots Music double DVD, which was a great series. I saw the Ballad of Rmablin' Jack when it came out - it was very interesting. Rambing is probably a good adjective to describe it. Goes to show the joy, folks. Just goes to show the joy. :-) Peace, V, wishing she'd gone to those shows! dang it. "I am a citizen of the moment. I've had that John Prine DVD about 2 months now and I've watched it about 8 times through. It's fantastic! I also liked the fact that Iris Dement was his special guest. I've always liked her voice but I've never seen her live. Yes, Prine is a GOD and "Hello In There" gets me every time I hear it. A great DVD. Also picked up the David Gray: Live at the Point DVD. On a first viewing it looks and sounds pretty good. Also highly anticipating the live DVD from Gordon Lightfooot due out early in 2002. Would a Shindell DVD be too much to hope for?
