And like yours, that e-mail was well-intentioned, but misinformed. This file is not a virus, and in fact, your computer kind of needs it. I think there are sites you can go to if you already deleted the file--I bet someone else on the list would know what they are. - --V Kristen Myshrall wrote: >Hi everyone, >Sorry for the crosspost...I somehow got a virus sent to me, one that travels >through your email address book. Pat - ------------------------------------- Subject: Marconi's first transatlantic transmission - Dec. 12 A reminder to all that tomorrow marks the centenary of an event which was a milestone in telecommunications history. It was at Signal Hill, St. John's, Newfoundland (now a National Historic Site) where Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless message, sent across the Atlantic from Poldhu on December 12, 1901. Let's take a moment to tip our tuques to Mr. Guglielmo Marconi and his wireless experiments. http://www.marconicalling.com/museum/html/places/places-i=1.html http://www.marconi.com/html/about/marconihistory.htm and http://canada.com/news/story.asp?id={61BD3EEB-B327-4613-8727-C8E92F34C4F3 __________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! I was out for my morning run and looked at my watch at exactly 7:30 - I actually thought about Vanessa standing at the window of the campus post office at that moment :-). Now that valuable Princeton education goes to waste while she skips class to listen over and over and over... Reunion Hill has always been my least favorite cd. Now I can't listen to this song without almost breaking into tears. Don't ask me how I missed this song. And Sonora - I'd never heard Richard's version of this song. What a *perfect* cover for him. I can't stop listening to it. I will be *on my knees* on Jan. 29 to hear it live. Does anyone else think Arrowhead sounds "galloping"? I've decided that most of the "nasal" stuff comes from this song as well. Interesting how many folks dislike Memory of You. I like it, and the mood of it reminds me of By Now. Do the folks that dislike Memory also dislike By Now? Slight word of caution - I broke the cover off my cd accidently this morning. As you know, to see the liner notes, you need a clear-bottom cd case. It took me 2 hours at lunch today (and visits to 3 stores) to find a cd case with a clear bottom... Switched over the booklet and case liner (the one on the bottom), and now I can keep the main CD and the Sonora CD in one single-sized jewel case. I have been enjoying it thanks to the generosity of my sister, as previously noted. Now, however, I will have the much anticipated Sonora Sessions in my clutches. But to whom shall I give the extra Courier??? Ack. My friends have fairly bland musical palates. They don't watch The Tick, either (like Vanessa and I do). I've been avoiding the digests since I ordered Courier because I knew the west would be the last place to get it. Now that it's here, I see that there has been all this talk of nasality bandied about. First, remember, he IS a New Yorker. Secondly, he's not nasal all the time. Listen to #7 Reunion Hill to revisit his full resonance. I think it's song and recording based. The songs recorded at The Emelin sound like they're a little compressed compared to studio recordings or the recording from Bailey Building and Loan(bass not as bassy, treble not as trebly see www.soundprobe.com/glossary/c.html) I think that to fully reproduce his voice you need to hear both the higher (nasal) and lower frequencies. Does this mean we all need to listen to him singing with an ear pressed to his chest? Only you and Mr. Shindell's lawyer can make that determination. Another example of an amazing reproduction of his voice is on the 3x2 Sampler: Transit. When I played it on the new stereo my wife looked at me, amazed and said," I didn't know we invited Richard over tonight." So, nasal, yes sometimes it appears so, but it's like listening to a Stradivarius on 8-track and saying that it's a little tinny. Should I head back to lurkdom? Probably for the best. - -Eric ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 01:50:39 -0700 From: "Eric Norris" Subject: [RS] oops >Another example of an amazing reproduction of his voice is on the 3x2 >Sampler: ->Transit.<- That should be 'Beyond the Iron Gate.' That version of Transit is good but not amazing. Sorry. See? This is why I should never post! - -Eric ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V3 #456 ***********************************
