(That may have been the first time I've seen her sort of flustered, admitting to richard that she had toppled a bovine or two in her time...) Guess we made our own fun in western pa, particularly in Johnstown, where we could only afford a good flood every 90 years or so. And on the subject of botas and all, one of my favorite "stupid things we did" memories was being, like, 17 or 18, smuggling in two six packs of Heineken bottles to an Outlaws concert between four people. Good thing it was winter and those snorkel jackets were popular...just as a footnote, I still remember that your ankles get really cold when you've got beer stuffed into your tube socks and it's snowing. (also a reflection on the crack security at the war memorial in johnstown, considering we were all clinking as we walked. ) one bad thing about getting old: beer will put you to sleep. one good thing about getting old: you don't have to buy too much, so you can get the expensive kind! Um. Hi. I'm kinda new. I've been lurking through the archives for a couple months now, but today I've decided to take the plunge and write to ya'll because I found a bit of interesting info I wanted to share with you. (I think I'm babbling...) Anyway, I was browsing the internet at work today, and came across this website that had more sound clippets of "Courier". Such as: Arrowhead Reunion Hill Kenworth of my Dreams A Summer Wind... Are You Happy Now? Willin' Next Best Western Here's the website: http://www.fishrecords.co.uk/rs.html Interestingly enough, they also have the EP available for sale on its own, for a pretty penny. Well, I'm going back under my rock now, but let me just say that I find this list an absolute pleasure to read. Which song of Richard's surprises you most? Merritt Parkway... first time I played snp I kept waiting for the words to kick in! I know it's been discussed in the past as to how it's a seque into transit and all, and it's a pleasant enough tune from memory- I usually skip over it... but I just felt so cheated that I was deprived of richard's lyrics! Cause lawdamighty, that's what first drew me to him before he even had a disc out. I would have to say Transit itself was somewhat unexpected to me; I definately enjoy the tune (especially as the bookend to NBW) but the first time i heard it I was thinking, "what the @!$! is going on here..." It could be surprising for any reason--it seems like a radical departure from the rest of his catalogue, or you can't imagine Richard writing it, or there's just something totally arresting about the song itself, something that makes you stop in your tracks with a little gasp, or anything else. << "Sea of Fleur De Lis"... I think there's a point/ story to all of the other songs. With this one, even Richard doesn't know what it's about. Listening now, and blown away by so many moments... so far, i have to say that my favorite vocal treasure is in "Nora", the way he sings the word "injury" (at 1:04) in the line "and her injury at the hands of an all mighty memory." that's how close i listen. i know, i know... and yes, i'm saving the bonus "sonora sessions" for last. - - eric ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Dec 2001 18:52:54 -0800 From: eric Subject: Re: [RS] Re: which of these things is not like the other Restive Ron (w)rote: >C'mon y'all . . . is there really any Richard song that's more dissimilar to >anything else he's written than "Lazy?"
