(side note: this will be Dave's third year crossing the ocean to join us on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend... :-) A bit of trivia about Grant's song is that it's written about Jack Williams, a lesser-known singer/songwriter from South Carolina with incredible guitar skills and a voice like "a cross between honey and sandpaper", according to my friend Robby - Ron D. has hosted him for his house concert series, and Pat Power has booked him at the Ten Pound Fiddle, so Jack is most definitely a musical force to be reckoned with! I'm not promising he'll be at our festival (although one never knows!), but if you ever have the chance to see him, I encourage it - his song, "This is My Body", laden with"red Southern clay" and "wild muscadine" references, always takes me right back to Georgia on a teary-eyed route... =*) Susan "When everybody's making weather in your overworked brain Drizzlin' on your picnic Just take a step in one direction and you're out of the rain And your road's yellow brick And hey you're off to see.." ~ Susan Werner ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Nov 2001 01:14:58 +0000 From: Buffy Subject: [RS] Kate Rusby supporting Richard I am SO incredibly jealous that you Americans are getting to see Richard Shindell AND Kate Rusby in the same concert. Oh my GOD. For those of you that haven't yet discovered Kate - well, you're in for a treat. Not only is she very funny, but she has the voice of an angel - absolute purity, and unlike almost anyone else's I can think of. There are quite a few people on this list to whom I have gushed unreservedly about her and whom I have begged to listen to her music - and most if not all of them have loved her. She is one of the few British folk artists I can have the pleasure of shouting about to you folk gluttons over there. Like Dave says....please return the favour one day, Richard! Buffy P.S. I just realised they're probably going to, like, sing a duet or something, too. ...... ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V3 #412 ***********************************
