Dar talked about it in a recent Christian Science Monitor interview. She spent some time writing prose in Summer 2001 and loved the freedom to use words expansively instead of the brutal paring down that song writing requires. john alvord ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2001 10:54:40 -0500 From: Charlie Hunter Subject: [RS] Miscellany Richard-listers, Let's see, let's see... sorry to have been so slilent here, but have been moving my studio, getting the RS 02 tour in place and finalizing the new presskit (yes, it eventually will be available at the website for download in Acrobat format). Still have to do the new poster, postcard and one-sheet (retail solicitation). Big News #1: The designer, Charlie Hunter of Hunter Studio, got the song order wrong on the tray card (first 20,000 copies of COURIER), confusing the order of "Kenworth" (track four) and "Willin" (track three). Amazingly, manager Charlie Hunter didn't notice the designer's screw-up. When he did, let me tell you, words were exchanged anbd fisticuffs ensued. We've decided to change the tray cards on the promo copies (they're not shrink-wrapped and it could screw up airplay), but leave the retail copies alone (all 20,000 copies were printed and shrink-wrapped before the mistake was noticed). We will offer corrected tray cards for those who request them. Big News #2: Yes, COURIER will be available - starting 12/1 - from the SSRC website for Holiday giving. If you purchase two copies (one for yourself, one for giving), you get a bonus SONORA SESSIONS cd ABSOLUTELY FREE! If you buy four COURIERS, you get TWO SONORA SESSIONS.... and so on (and just think how much Beatles "Butcher" covers are worth! - perhaps you should buy 19,000 copies of COURIER which might appreciate in value, and put your children through college! Then again, maybe not). THE SONORA SESSIONS contains: - - Confession - - Abuelita - - Wisteria - - You Stay Here - - Sonora's Death Row So, for those wondering, COURIER is designed to highlight RS's back catalog of songs; "Transit" being the only SNP song on there. THE SONORA SESSIONS will have 'working mixes' of the live versions of the SNP material RS played at the concerts last March. BIG NEWS #3: I remember that Patrick Power felt like the Patty Larkin A GO GO cd (recorded and mixed by the same team that we used for COURIER) was "curiously dead" feeling. I assured him that that was PRECICELY why we hired them to do COURIER! I am pleased to report that the record has exceeded our expectations and sounds UTTERLY DESSICATED! ABSOLUTELY MUMMIFIED! Just kidding. we think it sounds incredible; that it is the definitive RS album. Can't wait to hear your opinions (I know, I know, some of you will want it all to be totally acoustic. Tough. BIG NEWS #4: The tour is nearly all put together, and should be fully announced soon. Lori McKenna looks likely to support in Florida; no support act in Texas. Still figuring support for later in the tour. We're doing two co-bills with Kate Rusby (Chicago 4/12 and likely Alexandria, VA 4/23) Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! - - Charlie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2001 12:15:35 EST From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] Miscellany >> Lori McKenna looks likely to support in Florida ... An excerpt: "Oh My, No more Pie, Pie's too sweet, I'd like a little meat. Meat's too red, I'd like a piece of bread. Bread's too plain, I'd better take the train..." Eventually the song circles right back to the pie again, and so on. Intrigued? I can get you an MP3. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman, who are 2 members of Equation have just released a 10 track album (called 'One'), and amongst the tracks is a cover of Spring. Here's a link to a fairly long real audio file of the song, it's an interesting reading, with elements of English folk in the playing style. http://www.fishrecords.co.uk/audio/springkr.ram It's a self released album, and is unlikely to be generally available - but it's an album we're carrying (and is in stock at the time of writing, a link to the disc is on the new releases page). It's a wonderful little album, with some great songs on there. I had a good chat with Kathryn a few weeks ago, and she's a big RS fan - I forgot to ask if they did any other RS covers...I'll remember to ask next time. best wishes Neil - ------------------------------------------------- Fish Records Suppliers of singer/songwriter, folk & acoustic music Shrewsbury, England neil@fishrecords.co.uk http://www.fishrecords.co.uk tel +44 (0) 1743 231546 fax +44 (0) 1743 354354 - ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2001 19:22:16 -0000 From: "Dave McKay" Subject: [RS] Miscellany Charlie said, variously: > We will offer corrected tray cards for those who request them.
