Did I overlook it, or did no one post a set list? (I'm still wading through 4 days of e-mail, so perhaps I just didn't see it.) It was wonderful, as always, to see you folks.... Steve, I apologize for not sayin' hey; Cynthia noticed you but I didn't. What a wonderful show and an incredible venue. I can't believe the sound richard is getting out of that (relatively) cheap-ass guitar. I guess it should not surprise anyone when I say, "geez, the D-15 I played didn't sound that good..." he he he Anyway, now, back to reality. Which is vastly overrated. In the interest of hearing other artists, my wife and I will be hosting fingerstyle guitar artist Howard Emerson on Saturday, Nov. 17th @ 7pm. Howard has recorded and toured with Eric Andersen and also Billy Joel in the past. He has opened for John Hartford, Eric Andersen, the Pousette-Dart Band, Dion, Asleep at the Wheel and more. He has soloed at the Bitter End, Bottom Line, Brokerage, Turning Point, Town Crier and many more. He plays more instrumental than vocal, probably 75/25. It would be nice to have some listers attend. We are in Sterling, Mass. which is between Worcester and Leominster/Fitchburg. If you plan on coming, please email for more details. (Eliot). Well, "Let us go then, you and I..." (Prufrock again) The book was a Christmas present from my son, actually, (along with the Duino Elegies, Sonnets To Orpheus, and Uncollected Poems-)(when I told him I gave the book to Richard he said I had HIM to thank if I made a good impression. -love that kid - At which point I had to tell him, - - - O. K. here goes - can't wait to hear the flack I get over this - - - that the good impression bit was highly unlikely since I was the person that knocked over Richard's C Fox causing it to break its neck. And, to quote David Massengill, "it never has been living since." There It's said. (Trust me, you can't make me feel worse than I did, compounded by the fact that his martin was damaged that same week on it's way to the West Coast.) Then I further had to tell him (my son, Adam) that I left the Uncollected Poems behind as well as a compensatory offering. After the initial shock, there was about an hour of head shaking and laughing and "Way to go, mom" ing that I didn't find funny at all. Since I got started on this story, I may as well add that when Richard was in the sound room waiting to go on, I saw him with Amy's guitar and asked him whether his was damaged (we didn't see the damage at first- don't know how we missed it-nasty crack) he just gave me this sort of kind/bewildered look and said, "It's fine." (What was it Merlin said? "Every lie murders some small part of the world." ? - Not this one.) Of course when I went downstairs after he went on, everyone was talking about it and I found out. He was incredibly gracious about it all......So. Now the whole world knows. There's my bit of immortality. Me and Hitler. But anyway, Laura, I got the second copy of "Stories" from Borders. Had to Special order it though. It is sort of a rare little book but not out of print. Rilke always said he was very fond of it. He composed the whole volume in just "seven consecutive nights" as the introduction relates. By the way, since you like Rilke so well, do you know how he died? ......... Pricked by the thorn of a rose that he was delivering to a friend. Apparently he had some rare form of leukemia and the wound became infected. There's a poet's death..... Breaks my heart to think of it - enjoy the book, (If you still can't find it, I'll lend you mine.) Shelley (Wondering whether having broken Richard's guitar is sufficient grounds for getting kicked off the list.)(Go easy on me; I'm just now beginning to handle kidding about this after months of therapy, which I opted for instead of "pretty little blue pills".) P.S. HEY! Is someone going to review that concert! Think it's up to you, Jim. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Monday, October 22, 2001 12:19 PM Subject: [RS] Re: Stories of God > In a message dated 10/22/2001 4:58:45 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > owner-shindell-list-digest@smoe.org writes: > > << Shelley, > > Can't find this on Amazon.com. Some of us trip over our feet, others trip over our tongues. Me I go for both whenever possible. I think a round of embarrassing stories might help Shelley to realize she should forgive herself. I can think of one of mine right of the bat. My father was a banker and he used to let me come sometimes and stuff envelopes or other boring stuff at the bank. I was little maybe nine and was working with one of my friends. We were intrigued by this button under the desk we were working on. We just kept pushing it. Sometime later the riot police arrived in gear at the door. Seems that little button did do something ;-)! My dad still doesn't know we pushed the button. He has no sense of humor about this sort of thing. I have a friend who was at the gas station in high school when most of the football team pulled up. Desperate to act cool, she said hi to them and non-chalantly pulled quickly away. Of course it would have been cooler if she had removed the gas spigot from her car. She pulled the entire cord out of the ground and gas spewed everywhere. Very cool. I do know a story way worse than breaking RS's guitar though. My friend accidentally set a forest fire when she was a child. Now THAT is bad. All Shelley really did was get Richard out of using the guitar he really didn't like anyway and let him get a new one. He probably wished for that on some level. Anybody else have a story? I have more humilating ones, but they all involve dating! E P.S. - The only thing that should get you drummed of the list is not liking Richard or being rude. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2001 16:21:19 EDT From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] Stories of God/Confession How about embarrassing stories involving artists? Just Saturday night I saw David Wilcox, and after I was waiting to get some CD booklets signed. They were for a friend, for this CD that Martha Stewart has of various artists doing soothing songs...geared toward babies. Well, first of all, I asked if he knew he was on a Martha Stewart CD, and he said, "Who's Martha Stewart?" He was serious! So I said something like, "You know...she does things with linens...she sells things at K-Mart." Okay, *that* made an impression. :-) Then he said, "Why does she have a CD?" and I made some dumb remark about it being music to put you to sleep, LOL! I quickly amended that, saying that I didn't mean to say HIS music put people to sleep. So okay, I didn't break anything, but it certainly wasn't my favorite moment with an artist. :-) SMOKEY ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2001 21:38:54 -0400 From: "margaret clark & steve trozinski" Subject: [RS] re: cabin concert thoughts While I don't remember the entire set list from the second show at the Cabin on Sunday, here are some of the memories: Bleeker St A Tune For Nowhere (more fitting than ever) Home Team (Ron's request) "a little beer commercial of a song" Money For Floods Reunion Hill (slow and beautiful version) Darkness, Darkness AYHN (was I the only one surprised by this?) I Am (must be heard, explanations will not get you there) Calling the Moon (love his version) Sonora's Death Row (my request, Margaret finally got to hear it after going 0 for 10 in the past 12 months, including a badly timed bio break at the Outpost) America Tim and Lori once again did a great job of putting up with the mob and smiling through it. Richard seemed more conversational and interested in contact than usual, I think. Anybody hear how yesterday's "I Am" recording went? Jim, sorry we didn't get to talk, I guess we were too busy out on the back deck conducting the acorn catching contest... Ron, good to see you as always! Same for you, Gene and Isabel.
