I almost overlooked this... :) Somehow I think I've actually heard Ron mention the lady's name before, but of course I didn't take note back then and now I can't proove it :) I personally think that Ron's severe case of anti-Joanism could be shattered if he actually got to see her in concert. In my 15 years of seeing her in concert, she just gets better and better live. And she wasn't bad to begin with :) I for one have my doubts that Ron can stay away from the upcoming JB/D&T/RS-tour... so far the latter three have prooven to magnetically draw Ron near them :) Ohhh... I'd love to go... alas, I won't be able to. Didn't some guy we know once write a song about cursing a the blue divide? He must have had this particular situation in mind. So will I!: JOAN BAEZ! there you go, now we should all try, it could be a complete new experience for some of us :) I am, BTW, hoping for detailed reviews from THE tour of 2002 from all of those who co (and that includes you, RonG, as I am sure you will end up going (see my previous post) :-) ) Katrin, going to put on Gone From Danger now... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 07:33:57 -0400 From: patrick t power Subject: Re: AW: [RS] She who shalln't be mentioned Katrin wrote: <> There is about as much chance of this happening as the Dar Williams' official website has of being up-to-date. It was about five years ago, I think, and I'm only now getting my hearing back. Gene, I already had to cut cable tv and my subscription to Cosmopolitan to afford the AOL bill, concert tickets, CD's and black T shirt uniform. Now you're expecting me to do without food and soap too? Still haven't received SP, although I'm sure the anticipation will be far exceeded by the actual event. I will probably not be online for a while as I study and prepare for my RSAT's. On another (non related) note, what is it about Joan Baez that makes her so reviled? Oh and happy birthday Jim! She has gone out of her way to bring others, who receive less attention but are no less talented, on stage and into the spotlight. She has fought for many worthy causes and she's probably also just a real nice person, though I can't vouch for the latter given that I've never talked to her for more than three sentences. RonG however somehow isn't happy with the way she has been interpreting certain people's songs. Which if of course an opinion he is intitled to. While I realize that Westport, CT is not a cultural epicenter, I was very disappointed and chagrined to see the paltry assortment of "folk" and/or "alternative" music there. The only good news I can report was that Richard S.and Lucy K.each had their own little titled section in the folk department. Unfortunately, Richard's section only had 5 copies of Reunion Hill and 2 of SNP, and Lucy's had 1 of Flesh and Bone. There were no sections for Dave Carter, Tracy Grammer, or even Frasier! ;-0!! I did end up ordering Tanglewood Tree (?) at the desk, and they told me Lucy's new one comes in on Friday. As a consolation, I bought John Gorka's new one, which I suspect most of you purists find too slick and mainstream. I like it. I guess I should just give in and buy everything online. No, no, Ron. You know Laura is already far too deep in our little world for such things. :-) > But online is definitely the way to go folk. Either go to the artist's homepages first, or, when in doubt, check www.folkweb.com. And the artists get more of the money if you buy directly from their respective sites! :-) Folk music as a viable financial career option = more great folk music! > And there's always www.signature-sounds.com for Richard, Dave & Tracy, Mark Erelli, Jim Henry and a bunch of others. > > RG - -- "I still confuse mowing down with getting through." -Jeff Lang, "throw it all," from _Cedar Grove_ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 20:49:39 est From: "Amanda Bennett Thomas" Subject: Re: [RS] Re: tough luck Laura, The problem isn't your locale, it's Barnes and Noble -- having worked there I can offically say they have the worst folk music department of any chain store. If you have a Borders, try them -- many of their stores have better folk sections - -- and when in doubt, try a non-chain store -- they usually have the best selections of all.
