Richard recorded it earlier that day for a winter songs/holiday compilation album tentatively titled "Wonderland" that we're releasing this winter to benefit the Western Mass. Food Bank. The recording also features RS on electric guitar and Lincoln on bass. It's a hypnotic, obsessive sounding love song that has nothing to do with winter or holidays, but we'll take it! The album should be very cool. All of the Signature Sounds artists have contributed songs.....many of them originals. The Nields also wrote and recorded a great song for the album. It will only be available in Western Mass and on-line this year, with a national release in fall '02. It will be on sale in early November at our web site. I was there, unlike the two recent concerts in L.I. and Piermont which I so regretfully missed. But for the record, R did play this rare tune, alone on acoustic guitar, that night in July. What he never plays is "Cold Missouri Waters" which I have heard him do only once in about 6 or 7 concerts. Jeff opened for Peter one night at the Cafe Carpe in Fort Atkinson, WI, Peter was damnably impressed, and told us we needed to check him out. He was right. Between Jeff's literate songwriting, quietly stunning guitar-work, and gorgeous, weathered voice, his album, MILES FROM THE LIGHTNING, is hands-down, bar-none the most impressive debut I've heard in recent years. Jeff will be doing a string of shows in Massachusetts at the end of August/early September and the dates are listed below. Note that Jeff's only full-length show will be a house concert at my place (Moneypenny House Concerts) on August 31. There are still tickets left but the reservations are coming in pretty steadily so, if you're interested, e-mail me SOON! Visit: http://www.jeffreyfoucault.com to listen to MP3s or to purchase a copy of MILES FROM THE LIGHTNING and, of course, feel free to get in touch if you'd like any additional information. Hope to see you at a show! Perhaps, in fact, these songs have been wafting about the universe for decades, waiting for Jeffrey Foucault. We've been playing and playing the songs and have a hard time deciding whether it's the melodies or the lyrics, the singing or the arrangements that is most captivating. Everyone loves this record. What a knock-out!" - Marilyn Rea Beyer, Music Director, WUMB, Boston "Jeffrey Foucault is Lyle Lovett with more dirt on his boots. He has written ten of my favorite lines on this CD and his writing is like good woodworking: you want to dwell on it for a long, long time." - Peter Mulvey ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Aug 2001 17:22:27 -0400 From: Kerry Bernard Subject: [RS] Ummm... Wow. My e-mail program seems to be having a mid-life crisis. I just sent an e-mail NOT to the Richard list and NOT regarding Jeff at all, and then watched as it spat out that note again. I'm now terrified of what it might start spewing at other people. Anyway, um, sorry for sending that again. Lordy. I've heard him do Cold Missouri waters at least 3 times in a row. Perhaps he's tired of it or misses the harmonies. Also BTW Richard used to play Tune for Nowhere quite often, when it was "new." Complete with explanation. LBECKLAW@aol.com wrote: > > Actually, Richard did play Tune for Nowhere, at the request of Lisa Davis, at the Acoustic Cafe in Bridgeport, CT on July 28. He dedicated the song to two Worchester firefighters who were in the audience. I'd love to see him play it more. I think it's his best cover and it may well be the best disaster song ever written. Norman PS- For all of those who have never lived in the Bay State, triva question: How do you pronounce "Worchester"? ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V3 #275 ***********************************
